Where are my transmitters?
No, don't post back telling me that information is in my location already!
I have a perl script that can take the information in the Excel version of the ACMA Radio and Television Broadcasting Stations Book and turn it into a Google Earth .kml file showing the transmitter locations (and the description contains the basic parameters of the transmitters). It lets you look around your location and see where your transmitters are.
It understands the formats for Analog & Digital TV, AM & FM radio, and the temporary licence information as well.
Is that useful enough to post? I think it's pretty

Well if you had asked that I would have told you they were on the kitchen table.prl wrote:No, if I'd wanted to be asked that, I'd have asked about my keys!Gully wrote:Well I was going to say, when did you have them last to see if that helped you find them again.

I've tried doing this already by driving to MT Dandenong ones, but I'm below the direct horizon and covered in trees, and haven't gotten around to going to Selby yet
the MT Dandenong ones differ slightly from Google earth and the gps settings I took, you can see them on Google earth

What lat/long datum do you have set up for your GPS?grunta wrote:...

The lat/longs in the old AGD66 datum (also used in the ACMA data) differ from the same lat/long values in the WGS84 datum used by Google earth by about 200m. The AGD datum is optimised for the best fit to the shape of the earth in the Australian region; WGS is a best whole-of-earth fit.
rtv2kml does the conversion with a method that's accurate to about 5-10m; it's all the horrible stuff in the molodenskiy() routine.

Update of rtv2kml to version 0.1.3.

Useful for finding the direction from your home to your broadcast transmitters, and for verifying transmitter details.

New features:
- Contains precompiled versions for OS X, Windows and Cygwin that don't require installations of ''perl'' or of any additional ''perl'' packages.
- Now handles data for digital radio transmitters.
- Handles <tt>.csv</tt> files generated by OpenOffice Calc.
- Uses <tt>Text::CSV::Simple</tt> to parse <tt>.csv</tt> files properly. Required to parse CSV files generated by OpenOffice Calc.
- Made the detection of Analog/Digital TV and Digital Radio file names more flexible.
- Updated documentation, especially about using the compiled version.
- Added a README.txt with detailed installation information.
