What, with the Topfield HD 2410 with tap support out shortly? ;-)

Not much call for RGB converters on the BW. How will you support your AV habit now? :)

I bought a "refurbished" or "factory return" (or whatever) DP-P1 and immediately fitted a 500GB WD5000AAKB, a 0.1F supercap for the RTC, 1K in series with the blue supernova LEDs to reduce the lounge room illumination and an IEC mains connector to ease the pain of installation.

Two days later I read about the HD Masterpiece... :( If it takes off like the 5K I suspect a few Wiz owners, hackers and TAP writers will be seduced back. I wonder if Gerti (et al) is involved in development?

Cheers,
Rob

Hi Peter,

Here's an interesting observation: I reckon the SD performance of Toppy RGB (+YUV conversion) is better than the Wiz SD (but I haven't optimised the Pioneer Plasma to suit yet) and I don't think the Wiz HD is quite as good as the Pioneer, but it's early days.. I might have to build a box to tweak the Wiz...

Cheers,
Rob

Sorry to break in to what appears to be an "old boys club" ;) but...

It appears that Beyonwiz are actively looking at the video output quality concerns at the moment. You may want to hold off on any expensive or serious work for a few weeks to see if anything happens in this area.

By the way, this is an odd thread to start a discussion. :)

Regards,
Ian.

Know him? Hmm, well, I suppose he did have a lot to do with certain video converters for certain unnamed devices...... and there was the numerous helpful posts...... and the very insightful technical assistance......

But apart from that, a complete & utter stranger....

That's interesting news Ian. You well know how I've in the past, and just recently again, have complained about the quality of the Wiz's picture  . Perhaps my latest posts re comparison between the Toppy HD 7000 series and the Wiz have born some fruit  .

And, I agree with Rob, my old Toppy 5000 with a component RGB connection still gives a better picture than the Wiz. In order of PQ it's the Toppy 7000, then the Toppy 5000 with the Wiz coming in last. It'd be a very welcome improvment if the Wiz engineers could match or come closer to the PQ of the Toppy 7000 series. Video pass-through would be a nice option if that could be done. But, I believe that the Sigma chipset doesn't make this an easy task.

Interesting to note that some reviewers have reported that the PQ of the new Toppy TRF 2400 Masterpiece was worse than that of the earlier models   .

Hi Phil,

Unfortunately Beyonwiz aren't telling us much about what they are doing, or trying to do, to improve the picture quality. Hopefully we will learn more over the next beta cycle.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian,

PQ is a particular interest of mine; it was really piqued when my sparkling new Toppy's video was absolutely awful compared to my (much maligned, now retired) Dodgytec that had a superb picture. The Toppy 5K series turned out to suffer from low level, out of phase luminance, resulting in an over-saturated less-than-sharp picture. The design roots of the Wiz make me somewhat curious about the initial chroma over saturation that comes at default settings.

If I get time I'll do what I did with the Toppy and make some measurements to see what's going on...

I'll start a new thread, at least when I've something useful to report... Though maybe you could move this discussion for us instead? We probably don't need to be in the 'L' plate zone now...

Regards,
Rob

Hi Rob,

Sorry, I don't have moderation powers so I can't move the thread. Hopefully Dave or Gully can do this for you.

By the way, the thread Wiz upscaling issue as I see it. should give you an indication of where I believe Beyonwiz are looking to improve the picture quality.

Regards,
Ian.

I'll just leave it here and let you start a new topic or join an existing one, Rob.

This one can just go testing and greeting.

The BW does have the ability to adjust the R/G/B? so possibly hardware solutions are less necessary?
