My understanding is that Beyonwiz in Australia is either a private company or a proprietary limited company, owned (or mostly owned) by Jai Kemp. I think that Beyonwiz is a trading name of DTC, but I'm not sure.

Jai posts on this forum as Wiz HQ.

There used to also be a Beyonwiz company in South Korea. It did the manufacture and software development for the older DP and FV series Beyonwizes. I don't know what the ownership is of that company, nor what its fate was.

The IceGuide is not actually the name of anything. The IceTV EPG and TV recording service is provided by IceTV, a brand owned by TV TV Australia Pty Ltd. The major shareholder of TV TV and its managing director is Colin O'Brien. The company name appears in the footer of every IceTV Web page :)

Colin posts on the IceTV forum as MD.

Another testing post.

Why?

Your repeated posts with low value content are bordering on spam. They are following a pattern similar to that used by spammers that eventually flood the forum with junk posts.

Please try to engage in meaningful conversation in the future.

With respect I was advised to post anything - no matter how meaningless - in the test forum in order to get my count up.

I think Peter's just letting you know the count is high enough. It was basically as PRL said to bet you enough so your posts didn't need to be approved first. I am not sure of how many but 4 or 5 sounded about right and you are now in double figures.

Only the first two posts are moderated and keep you in the Newbie category. By the time you received the advice it was no longer necessary as you had full access.

Increasing post count using meaningless content defeats the purpose of having a low threshold to weed out the spammers.

T'was only when YouSnooze reached 10 posts that he was finally able to read the PM I sent regarding my personal details. As that obstacle has been overcome, the issue should now disappear.

The 'Apprentice' level appears to be reached at 10 posts, whereas 'Newbie' is reached at 3 but obviously without full rights as you point out.

So it sounds like we should encourage up to 3 test posts and support conversations to 10 posts for new legit users.

That is not right. I checked the configuration and the inability to use the PM system is removed after two posts.

The user rank has no influence on the permissions. Permissions are controlled using a different mechanism.

Definitely not! Inflating the post count by using test posts without any meaningful contribution defeats the purpose of having post count limits to weed out spammers. The limit is small (2 posts), which makes it easy enough to engage in a meaningful conversation. It's just a matter of a first post, followed by a sensible reply. After that you get full access. There is no need for these two posts to be meaningless tests and there is definitely no need to make noise just to get to ten posts. Ten posts will not enable any extra features.
