You are probably trying to use one of the mysteriously banned words that the forum software rejects.

Yes, probably indiscriminate defense by the forum host against "code injection" hacks.

It's a right pain to try to work out which bit of a post is offending the forum gods.

good to know for future. Had rewritten it several times which all up as probably taken an hour or more of my day but each time put my code which utilises the word "c-u-r-l". Bizzare but good to know for future if I see the same error

I can't make curl trigger the 503 any more, either !

As for curling, its tradition of good sportsmanship could do with emulation in other sports
