Have new LIDIC coming to mate with my BW S1, can see specs and hook up but wonder how it works and how it can record various Austar (Foxtel ch)?.

Re: Using LIDIC
Easy, enable LiDiC in the Setup menu and you will have two new channels 950 and 951 in your service menu (one for each LiDiC input line). You can record and timeshift these "channels" just like any other FTA channels.Foxtail wrote:Have new LIDIC coming to mate with my BW S1, can see specs and hook up but wonder how it works and how it can record various Austar (Foxtel ch)?.

Re: Using LIDIC
Just to add that to timer-record Austar/Foxtel using the LiDiC, you need to set corresponding timers on the Beyonwiz and the Foxtel box. The Beyonwiz can't control the Foxtel box to make sure it's on and outputting the right program (as I believe the TiVo can).madmax wrote:Easy, enable LiDiC in the Setup menu and you will have two new channels 950 and 951 in your service menu (one for each LiDiC input line). Re: Using LIDIC
The Tivo sold here in Oz doesn't have any analogue input capability. There might be some US models that do though.prl wrote:(as I believe the TiVo can).
I don't think Austar (at least my receiver) can set view timers. Happy to be shown otherwise.

Just received the LiDiC, checked the manual and confused, can someone advise me how to connect this up to my BW S1 and Austar Boxes? (composte!/VideoS).
Currently I have HDMI cable from BW SI to Receiver and then HDMI to TV.

Don't have one, but I would be trying S-Video (from LiDic to BW) first.

Plug a USB lead into the LiDiC and the other end into the BW, this sets up the connection for recording.
Then for preview connect either the S-video or composite video, from AV Out on the back of the LiDiC, into a matching input on the TV - same with the audio.
That's it apart from plugging the analogue source, Foxtel or Austar or VHS video and audio OUT into either LiDiC AV 1 or 2 IN

Thanks,
The receiver is ONKYO 605 and it can accept VideoS and redirect it to HDMI output so think I'll try that.
So I'd go Austar box via VideoS to LiDiC then out of that via VideoS to receiver?, then redirect to HDMI (to TV).

Does the LiDiC pass the video through when the Wiz is in standby? If yes, than this will work Foxy. If no, then you will need the Wiz on, in which case you can watch the Austar on a WIz channel anyway (950 I think), although I suppose if you are rapidly cycling between watching 2 things, one on Austar and one, say, timeshifted on the Wiz, then you may as well keep running the Austar on the thru connection to your HDMI upscaling on the Onkyo. Also does the Austar box have two SCARTs? If so, you can probably connect one connection to the Wiz, and one to the amp to upscale to HDMI, so you don't need to worry about whether the Wiz is in standby or not (and or potential degradation the WIz may cause for the passthru.... I didn't even know it had a passthru to be honest!).
If you want the best quality, stick with svideo. Does it have a separate svideo connection AND a TV-SCART? If so then you can definitely connect one to the amp and one to the Wiz LiDiC input. You won't need to use the LiDiC passthru in that instance.
Be aware that the VCR-SCART of most dual scart boxes is only ever composite output, no matter what you have setup for the TV-Out (so you can record to a VCR, hence its name).
Some boxes will let you setup the VCR-SCART to be svideo output, but this is a rare ability for most things.

I know it's a free country, by why insist on using incorrect terminology when the correct term has been provided by multiple posters This has the potential to confuse those who are trying to help you.Foxtail wrote:Thanks for all the input guys, going to have a play with the LIDIC etc. on the weekend.
None of the devices have scart so will use VideoS.
PS. Another accepted title for S-Video is SVHS.

Thanks Netmask, I knew I had seen the S-Video connectors referred to as S-VHS. Just didn't realise it was incorrect. It's easy to see from your post how the correlation was made though.[/quote]To get the most benefit from S-VHS, a direct video connection to the monitor is required, ideally via an S-Video or component video connection. However, consumer S-VHS equipment was usually limited to S-Video and composite...
It is not unusual to see the term S-VHS incorrectly used to refer to S-Video connectors (also called "Y/C connectors"), even in printed material. This may be due to S-VHS being one of the first consumer video products equipped with the Y/C connector

Update.
Was able to manage a test recording.
Had Austar box on a program, had BW set on LIDIC, pressed record window came up with no date, just record/length etc. so could not set any date forward other than recording it instantly. Pressed record and it did.
Just can't get my head around...
How to record various Austar programs in advance while watching normal TV via BW.
Also when LIDIC and BW on but not recording picture looked washed out and voices way out of sync, yet when I recorded the program it was perfect, all very weird.

Looking at the Austar program guide, either printed or epg, note the time and length of the future desired program - say 7pm Monday for 2 hours.Just can't get my head around...
How to record various Austar programs in advance while watching normal TV via BW.
Then on the BW set a manual timer using the PopUp menu for that time and date and for channel 950 or 951.
On the Austar box if there is a set view timer facility then set that so that the Austar will switch on at the appointed time and date to the Austar channel.
If it doesn't have this facility then you will have to remember to switch it on to the Austar channel you want say 5 minutes before the program is dues to start.
The BW should then start recording channel 950 or 951 at 7pm on Monday and as long as everything is connected and the Austar box is on you will have your recording.
On audio sync viewing via the LiDiC I've had the same problem and I think there is a buffering problem in other words timeshift etc just don't work. I've never been able to get that side of it to work properly but for timed recording it works...

What were you hoping it would do, change the channel on your Austar box for you? Once you plug it into the right spot, and enable it correctly, then whatever is on the Austar box at the time ends up into the Wiz channel 950/951. So if you want to timeshift it, you can press pause etc like a normal TV channel. If you want to record it, you can channel surf to 950/951 and press record. If you want to record it later in the day, you setup a timer for it just like setting up a normal timer. There are a few ways to set normal timers on the Wiz however.
1. From ICE Interactive-forget using that method for 951/952
2. From the EPG-again, forget using that method for 951/952 as there is no EPG for those channels
3. From the timer menu- Popup-timerlist, red to add, ok to edit etc.
