Slow response when changing channels / washed out display

Post by bLaDeY » Fri Sep 05, 2008 20:49

Hi Guys,
I recently got satellite tv through selectv using their supplied box.

To record programs from satellite I got my hands on the Lidic and plugged that into my DP-P1.

From day 1 the response to flick between channels has been incredibly slow, like 1 - 2 seconds to go between them.

Plugged the AV straight into the TV is extremely quick (immediately as expected).

Then tonight we have switched the TV on to find the picture really washed out and not viewable by anyone's standard.

Removing the AV cables from the Lidic box and plugging them back into one of the TV's AV inputs the picture is crystal clear.

Any idea's on what might be causing this? At this stage I'm thinking something is wrong with the Lidic box, everything else though on the PVR is perfect and no complaints at all.

Thanks

Cheers
Darren

Hi Darren,

Welcome!

What firmware are you running on your DP-P1?

Regards,
Ian.

I am running 1.05.261

I pulled the power out of the PVR and the washed out look has gone but the response time remains unchanged.

Can you please explain in a little more details what you are doing and what is happening.

Regards,
Ian.

At present the picture is unwatchable, turning the lidic device upside down I there is something loose inside the unit, I'm really not sure how something has come loose since the device hasn't moved since it was plugged in.

The best bet I think at this stage is to contact the place of purchase.

Thanks

The apparent delay in changing channels is normal. Your satellite box is changing as fast as it is supposed to. But there is a delay in what you see onscreen from the satellite box. It has to go through the LiDiC and then via USB into and then through the P1 to the TV. The remote control delay is usable as long as you don't try and change settings in the satellite box's menu via the LiDiC.

The washed out video output from the LiDiC is not normal. But it only happens if you leave the LiDiC on for long periods of time.

So what your saying is basically it can't be left on 24 / 7 like the PVR? This to me seems to go against completely what it was purchased for and seems a little pointless.

This is just like saying I go out and buy a new car and the stereo stops working after a few hours of driving!

Does this imply a heating problem that could be solved with some additional ventilation?

Has anybody found a way to fix this?

My parents have just purchased this unit to record austar and are seeing the same behaviour. ie if the Lidic is left on for long periods the colours are very saturated, but could be descrived as washed out also.

is turning off the DP-P! the only answer, sinc the Lidic's power si supplied via the DP-P1.

No solution that I have come across, I should really return it to the place of purchase, if you purchase a product on the basis of recording you could right in thinking it would be safe to leave the unit of 24/7.

A bit of prior warning just would have been nice that's all before going to the effort and purchasing this.

"long time" seems to be about 24 hours - though it gets continually worse as time goes on.

The initial affect is a bit like posterisation but left long enough the picture can go almost entirely white.

Anything that bounces power to the LiDiC (Wiz power or pull out the USB plug) returns it to normal immmediately.

Has anyone tried a Y connector USB lead?

I thought more reliable power. Could also try a powered USB hub?
