Lip sync issue

Post by JasonBB » Thu Feb 14, 2008 15:03

G'day, just picked up a LiDic, easy to set up but, I have found I am having some lip sync issues. Some channels seem to be ok. When you change channel I seem to get a bit of pixilation, it looks like the USB isn't getting enough speed or something.
Anyone else?

On another note is there anyway to convert component to s-video? My box only has component and composite so the picture is pretty average.

Is the lip-sync issue observable live via the LiDiC or on playback of a recorded file via the LiDiC?

Also what is the source of your input to the LiDiC?

I have not observed any sync problems.

Jason, I haven't noticed any lip synch problems. Not sure what you mean when you say "when you change channels", what are you changing channels on? If it's Foxtel, I didn't notive any change when I changed channels just seemed to be the one continuous signal coming from the IQ to the E1.

Component to SVideo can't be done just with cables (to my knowledge) you need to buy a converter. Did a Google search and found a few, here's one that's $275, saw some other cheaper ones but couldn't get any detail -

G'day, it was just watching live TV from Digital Optus.
Unfortunately its just composite and sound from the box to the LiDic then USB to the DSP1

Changing channels on the Foxtel / Optus box.

That's really expensive, not prepared to pay that.

Has anyone else seen lip sync issues when inputting foxtel or optus through a LiDiC?

I do not have Foxtel or Optus I have however connected various VHS players and set top boxes and have not experienced any lip sync issues - aspect ratio problems YES!

As Netmask says I haven't had any lipsink problems either from a VCR or Foxtel, my only problem is the fact that the E1 doesn't get the aspect ratio correct meaning that you have to process the file thru somthing else to fix it - a bit annoying.

Lip sync problem

Post by seanwells » Fri Jan 02, 2009 21:48

I have the lip sync problem when watching foxtel programs both live and recorded. The foxtel box is connected to the Lidic via a composite cable and the Lidic to the Beyonwiz S1 via the usb cable. A composite cable from the Lidic to the tv allows me to view foxtel without the lip sync issue but of course without the use of the PVR features.
I am surprised that this thread ran out of steam with no resolution. Has anybody got a solution or suggestions? Ta

Are you also usiing foxtel?

Do you get the same lip-sync when using S-Video?
What about when using Input 2 instead of Input 1? (or visa versa)
Is the lip-sync issue only on live or timeshifted foxtel? Or also on LiDiC recordings?
cheers

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. The lip sync issue is constant when viewing foxtel and on recordings. I will change to input two and see what happens. I haven't tried S-video as I don't have the cable. I will try input 2 first and then see if I have to buy another cable.

Cheers
John

Lip Sync issue on recordings transfeerd to PC

Post by Barrybr » Fri Apr 17, 2009 16:19

I use the WIZ Player to transfer recordings to my PC. It transfers them in many packets of 32mb.

I use TMPGEnc Version 4 to convert them to Mpeg however when playing the file back the Lip Sync is out by about a second.

Is the problem with the WIZ player, the connection from foxtel to the LIDIC (Component v SVideo, I use Component) or is TMPG the problem.

I would use WizFX however it seems to have stopped working (it can no longer find the beyonwiz however the Wiz player can.

Does anyone have any idea whether this is an inherent probem or can it be solved.

Thanks
BazzaB

@Barrybr,

I have a DP-P2, which has a version of the LiDiC hardware built in. I have seen the problem you are describing and it is usually caused by old data being streamed into the recording as the LiDiC driver restart after being idle. You can see it some times as a few seconds of the previous show when you switch back to channel 950 followed by some blank screen, then finally the proper show.

The easiest way I have found to dodge the problem is to skip the 0000 first 32Mb file. This corresponds to about 80 seconds of program, so you need to preroll by 2 minutes or so.

The ultimate fix will be when (if) ProjectX handles H.264+AAC.

@All,

As for lipsync with Foxtel viewed through the LiDiC, yes there is a quite noticable issue when watching "Live". When watching a recording or time slipping there is much less offset, almost unnoticable. When I need to I generally monitor Foxtel recordings a few seconds behind live to avoid the irritation.

I believe Foxtel normally has a very slight lipsync issue that is not generally noticable, and I believe the LiDiC code has a similar issue. Together the sum of the 2 delays makes it noticable. I believe about 200 milliseconds is considered the threshold for detection of lipsync issues, so if each contributed say 100ms of delay together it would become detectable, where as singly either would not.

Somewhere there is a general player wish for tunable lipsync delay.

Barry

You can use WizFX on the files once they are on your computer to combine them into a TS file. It would be interesting to see what that does with the sync problem.

Ian

Have a look at the KM Player which does have resync options.

I have the lipsync issues with my lidic to. I have a DP-S1 with he latest firmware update. I have "austar" (same a foxtel but up in nothern QLD) ad have tried running he lidic on input 1 and 2. I also have colour fade problems when watching austar through the lidic. The images start out good for the first 10 mins but after the lidic gets warm (im asuming) the colours start to wash out and the picture starts getting white. I have had the ldic sice january a have tried other cables with and without ferrite supressors and these made no difference. Can anyone suggest a fix. After such a great product with the DP-S1 i cant believe Beyonwiz have created a Beyondud with the lidic. Very unhappy.
