Generally, most mains powered USB HDDs will work on Beyonwizes. USB-powered USB HDDs frequently will not work with Beyonwiz PVRs, because the Beyonwiz only provides 500mA on its 5V power connection to the USB connector, and many USB HDDs require more power than that, even though 500mA is the maximum allowed in the USB 2.0 specification.

The Beyonwiz can only fully access HDDs formatted as FAT32. It can read NTFS-formatted HDDs, but it can't write to them.

Thank you Peter for that information. I have no intention of replacing my S1 as it has never put a foot wrong, but if I wanted to, what could I get to improve my ability to save programs, in other words increase the HD capacity.

You can put a bigger HDD in it. There are plenty of threads in the forum describing how to do this. For the S1, which uses an older technology PATA disk, you can buy a PATA to SATA converter that allows you to attach a newer, much larger SATA drive. 500GB is no problem, but larger there could be issues, although Beyonwiz are now selling a 2TB model. There are threads discussing the potential issue as well. It is to do with memory available to do a check disk after a power failure.

Thank you I will leave it for now I am hoping there will be a machine on the market soon that has (say) 4 tuners. Do you thank that is likely'

2 tuners for 5 channels but now with umpteen channels, 2 tuners is just not enough. The other idea is to buy another HD recorder.

Home Theatre PC. I'm not the one to advise on the details, but I'm sure there will be some who can.
