Is it the sender or receiver?

Post by robbo » Thu Nov 26, 2015 21:27

I have a DP-P2 that was working fine until 2 days ago. All of a sudden it stopped responding to the remote. I've tried several battery replacements and tested the voltage of the batteries I put in but they're fine. I need to work out whether I need to buy a new remote or get the unit fixed. Does anyone know a way to work out whether it's the sender or the receiver that's the problem?

Have you checked it is actually in "STB" mode rather than "TV" mode?

The remote (sender) can be checked by watching the transmitting LED through a mobile phone video camera. CCD cameras such as those in digital cameras and phones will see IR light and you will see the LED flashing when you press a button.

That is brilliant - so easy and clear!! Thank you.

Unfortunately the answer it gave is not the answer I was hoping for. Looks like the remote works and the receiver has failed so it's one for the repairer.

BTW Grumpy_Geoff , yes I checked to make sure the STB button was pressed. Only thing I am not sure of is if there is a way the remote could have been set to a operate a different unit by mistake (I think I read somewhere that this is possible - and I may have been sitting on it for a while without realizing)

Yep, from the P2 manual:
"4-2. Operating Other Beyonwiz Products
The enclosed remote control (Product code: BR-02) is designed to
operate the DP-P2 only. To operate other Beyonwiz products of DP-S1,
DP-P1 and DP-H1, which are designed to be operated with a remote
control of BR-01, you have to change its operating mode; please press
and hold the numeric button 1 for 5~6 seconds while pressing the OK
button. The red backlight beneath the TV button blinks three-times if
the remote control changes its operating mode successfully.
If you want to return the operating mode of the remote control to
operate the DP-P2, please press and hold the numeric button 2 for 5~6
seconds while pressing the OK button. The red backlight beneath the
TV button blinks three-times if the remote control changes its operating
mode successfully."

Hmmmm, well I am a goose! I couldn't get the remote to change mode so I looked at the remote and its a BR01, so I checked the Wiz and it's a DP-P1...Ooops It's been around and working so well for so long I forgot the model. Oh well I guess that leaves me taking it to a repairer, unless someone knows a better solution. Thanks for the help provided so far
