Problem with my DP-P1
Problem with my DP-P1
I have been using the DP-P1 for nearly two years now. A couple of days back, everything just stopped and all that I get when I on the system is a 'Welcome" note and then the display just shows 01.04.144 and nothing happens after that. I called the help desk and the support staff asked me to send an email for them to send me a firmware update. It has been a week and couple of reminders but nothing has come throgh. Can anyone help me !!!!!
You can go the beyonwiz website www.beyonwiz.com to download the latest firmware but in your case you firstly need the recovery software.

Gully's post above has a link to the instructions for firmware recovery. What bits do you need clarified?Anand wrote:Still not been able to figure out a way to load the recovery software. Help please !!!! Someone who can teach me in a layman's language !!! Thanks Guys !!!
Generally people find it much more effective to ring Beyonwiz Support than emailing them.

4. You need to download a firmware update file (.wrp file) from the Beyonwiz downloads page to your PC, if you don't have one already. The most recent firmware for the DP-P1 is on the Beyonwiz corporate web page: http://www.beyonwiz.com/support/download.phpAnand wrote:I have downloaded the recovery software but do not understand the following steps.
4. Drag the required firmware update file into RemoteUpdate (this should be the .WRP file and not a .ZIP)
5. Choose the correct address you're using from the dropdown box on RemoteUpdate
5. The address you chose needs to match the first 3 numbers in the IP address that your PC's router gives your PC. I think that you'll see this if you hover the mouse over the local area network icon in the system tray (at least I think that will work on XP; I don't think I've ever seen Vista running).

Hi Peter
I downloaded the Remote Updater and then moved the latest firmware update DPP1_0105334 to the Updater. I then linked the computer to the DPP1 with an ethernet cable. Then as instructed on the remote I pressed 1+2+3+4 and then on button. It showed initializing on the screen and then after a few seconds displayed error - network error.
Think I have covered what I have been trying to do.
Thanks
Anand

Hi, Ian. Anand's using the firmware recovery process, so the Beyonwiz's normal firmware isn't running, so its network settings are both inaccessible and irrelevant to the recovery procedure.
Anand - it's not possible to give detailed information about where to look for your network settings without knowing what version of Windows you're using. XP, Vista or Windows 7? Home or Pro?

Hi Anand,
On the Beyonwiz go to SETUP > Network >Setting. At the "Network Device LAN" screen press the GREEN button to display the status of the network.
You have told us nothing about your PC so I have no suggestions there.
Do you have access to someone who is familiar with computer networks who can give you some assistance?
Regards,
Ian.

Re: Problem with my DP-P1
Does anyone have the RemoteUpdate.exe file?
I can't find it on any of the sites mentioned previously.
I've got a DP-P1 showing the E-Booting error.

Re: Problem with my DP-P1
I have a copy - I'll try uploading it as a zip file and see if that works.
Else, send me a Private Message with your email address and I will send it to you. Don't post your email address here.
You may have failed capacitors and/or voltage regulators on the mainboard too. My former P2 had that problem. Caps are relatively easy to change if you have that skill. If not, I have a T3 I would part with for $100 + postage.

Re: Problem with my DP-P1
Thanks very much Paul!
I have downloaded the file. It unzips and the files all look good.
Next question, does anyone have the latest firmware file (wrt?) for the DP-P1?

I'm an electronics engineer so fortunately do have that skill, although it's important to point out that folks don't need a degree to solder in capacitors.
I did check the voltages and they were all within spec, but I didn't check for ripple so I should do that.
Thanks again.

Re: Problem with my DP-P1
As am I!
High ESR in the general purpose capacitors was an issue in my old P2. And yes, most people with a good soldering iron can replace the caps with a bit of guidance.

I also found another firmware for the P1. I think it enables AAC audio. I don't think it was officially released. It may not even be from Beyonwiz but I'm pretty sure I had it installed.

Re: Problem with my DP-P1
It was genuine unlisted f/w made available by Warkus on request to allow MPEG-4 services to record & play on the DP-P1.blip wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 16:21I also found another firmware for the P1. The following is from my notes:
Once that f/w (the copy I have is named ‘DPP1_0107070_ORIGINAL.wrp’) is installed on the DP-P1 .VOB & .ISO files won’t play. REMINDER PLEASE to reset factory default AFTER UPDATE. Once updated, boot and go straight into ‘menu > system > initialize’. You will not lose recordings doing this. Re-scan channels, and reconfigure the unit to your liking and you’re done.
A modified version of that f/w (the copy I have is named ‘DPS1_0107070_MODIFIED.wrp’) will work on the DP-S1. The S1 is basically a P1 mainboard inside the S1 with the following additions; DVD drive & WiFi daughter board.
Once the modified f/w is installed on the DP-S1 .VOB & .ISO files won’t play, the DVD player will no longer work, DTS audio won’t work, & the wireless LAN won’t work, because it becomes a DP-P1 running modified 07 series f/w (You will now essentially have a DP-P1 unit inside a DP-S1 case). REMINDER PLEASE to reset factory default AFTER UPDATE. Once updated, boot and go straight into ‘menu > system > initialize’. You will not lose recordings doing this. Re-scan channels, and reconfigure the unit to your liking and you’re done.
This firmware update is totally reversible, and you can happily go back to the 1.05.xxx series of firmware if you so choose.
I ran the above relevant f/w on DP-S1s & on an FV-L1 (DP-P1).
Some discussion here about the FV-L1.
Edit: See above correction to the DP-S1 f/w.

Re: Problem with my DP-P1
Thanks everyone for the files and advice.
I checked for ripple on the power supply rails and all seemed within spec.
I also attempted to uploaded upload the firmware using the RemoteUpdate tool tonight, but it's not working.
I'm running RemoteUpdate on a Win7 laptop (and selecting the correct .wrp file).
I've connected both DP-P1 and the laptop to an old router via ethernet cables.
Starting the Beyonwiz using the "1 2 3 4 POWER" sequence on the remote results in the following display sequence: "INITIALIZING" "ERROR" "E:NETWORK"
The RemoteUpdate tool on the laptop displays "DHCP Message: Discover" twice in the log window as the Beyonwiz powers up.
I tried this several times with the same result.
Since RemoteUpdate can see the DHCP calls from the Beyonwiz, it seems the network connection is correct.
I did read elsewhere that RemoteUpdate would only work with WinXP, whereas the recent advice has been that Win7 can be used.
Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?

Re: Problem with my DP-P1
Incidentally, warcus mentioned that the E:Booting error is a sign that the Flash memory chip is starting to fail.
I think I found a supply of the Flash memory chip on that board.
I found the datasheet here:
https://media-www.micron.com/-/media/cl ... 9w640f.pdf
It's a 64Mb device.
And I found a few suppliers on ebay, e.g.:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/40160150579 ... 6023934778
There is another flash memory chip on the motherboard, but it's very small. I wonder if that contains the boot loader or just some random settings.
I have no idea if replacing that chip would still allow the unit to boot and run the flash remote update process.
