Collectible STB & PVR hardware available

Post by peteru » Fri Apr 26, 2024 23:12

I've been clearing out my office. It's full of unused equipment and it's getting hard to get to the things that I need.

There's a pile of old STBs & PVRs of various brands and vintages. Many are pre-production or early production units of the well known Beyonwiz models that used to be available. These would still have some old version of the Beyonwiz firmware installed on them. Some units are models developed for European, African and Asian markets. Almost all of them would have been at some stage supported by OpenATV firmware and some also work with Beyonwiz firmware. I developed the drivers for most of these boxes for the Korean ODM and I worked with OpenATV developers as the target platform when bringing new boxes to market. I am not sure how many are still in a working condition as some have been in storage for a decade. I'm pretty sure that I did not keep anything that was faulty, but I don't know how well they aged.

I'm not going to send them to landfill and I am also reluctant to dispatch them to e-waste. Given the apparent shortage of enigma2 PVRs, I thought that maybe some of you may be interested.

Please reply if you are interested and if I should take stock of what I have.

P.S. If you are curating a PVR collection for a museum, I even have PPC based motherboards for what was going to be a VideoEZY PVR, back in the days when Netflix was a mail order company. 8)

Note that some pre-production V2s can't run standard Beyonwiz software.

It's only the driver libraries that check the unit serial number. Adoxa made a patcher to fix that.

I think OpenATV may have different binaries that work on all hardware.

Having said that, I am in no way making any guarantees as to the ability of any particular hardware unit to be fit for any specific purpose. Caveat emptor and all that...

It's /usr/bin/libreader that needs the patch.

I think that the OpenATV and other European enigma2 builds that work on the Octagon SF8008 will work on the pre-production V2.

I’d like another box to run OpenaTV as one of mine has become a bit temperamental. Not fussed on what flavour of box. Happy to collect.
Cheers,
