Replacement remote? Replacement PVR??

Post by Lex200 » Wed Aug 17, 2022 11:36

I’ve been a Wiz user since the first week the DP-S1 was released. I’m addicted to ad skipping and don’t like to consider any alternative for viewing.

My T3 remote is on its last legs and my T3 is showing signs of ageing despite having a voltage regulator replaced under warranty and surviving me replacing the 10 capacitors recommended by Warkus.

I’m seeking advice on replacement remotes and a new PVR. It seems that Beyonwiz is barely functioning with its website showing BR-T3 remotes available but V2 units and BR-01 remotes both out of stock.

My original BR-T3 remote only lasted less than 2 years. Was that an exception or should I be seeking alternatives such as this one on eBay - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12377758509 ... R9jLkJbVYA

Does anyone have any info regarding if the V2 will be made available for purchase again or if there are any other PVRs with ad skipping function available elsewhere, including from overseas.

Thanks for any advice

That EBay remote is ringing alarm bells in my head.
I have never heard of a remote that was designed to work with the DP and T series PVRs.

I did an image search on that, and it matches with a "One For All" universal remote. Presumably then this one can be programmed with a PC, or contains an ungodly number of code sets on board. Either way, I think it is just a regular universal remote, so hopefully, it is not a "teaching" variety where you need a working remote to tech from.

As for alternative universal remotes, I can't offer any suggestions at this point. I am still in mourning over the Harmony line discontinuation :(.
Logitech Harmony Ultimate+Elite RCs
Beyonwiz T2/3/U4/V2, DP-S1 PVRs
Denon AVR-X3400h, LG OLED65C7T TV
QNAP TS-410 NAS, Centos File Server (Hosted under KVM)
Ubiquiti UniFi Managed LAN/WLAN, Draytek Vigor130/Asus RT-AC86U Internet
Pixel 4,5&6, iPad 3 Mobile Devices

I've got 2 new 650's in the draw, just waiting for the inevitable 'sticky buttons' that will destroy my current one. :(

URC 7955
Smart Control 5

Is the best remote I have ever had. I program it on the pc with the correct usb cable though. So it is pretty hard to get perfect without software. It could probably be done though as long as you don’t over use the learning function (remember where they are so you can delete unwanted ones), there is enough learning spots to use the Beyonwiz all other devices need to be found with a code. I use the nettv button to switch the yamaha amp pre-sets (yamaha scenes) which is perfect. I don’t use activity on the remote, that is the only useless key.

It is a jp1.2 remote I think, I forget. It is fun, but very difficult to learn. There is also a blue tooth which is newer than my old jp1.2 cable to download and reupload the key codes.

People make good jp1.2 cables for you, I just forget where to order them.

Thanks for the comments about remotes.

Is there any point doing an online order on the Beyonwiz website or are they completely non-functioning?

Any advice on how to buy a PVR?

I would ask in an email first.

They might have got sick of selling pvrs or it may just be because expenses buying stuff from China have gone up because of the oil price, covid shutdowns.

The v2 got very expensive on the website before they ran out of stock.

The URC 7955 is great skipping ads as well, it has a light silent click for the up,down, left, right… but you would need a working remote to program it.

I asked if they were shutting down on the IceTV forum. The reply from Colin was Jai said they.weren't able to get new stock so were shutting down for a while.

I wouldn't quite give up on it when that happens. I bought a button repair kit for my 650 3 years ago when the buttons started playing up, and it's still going strong. You can get these kits here:

https://buttonworx.com/en/5-logitech

or through their eBay store:

I also swear by the repair kits but my latest order for two kits seems to be lost in the post. I know they were addressed correctly because Ben sent me a picture of the addressed envelope. My recollection was the first order was slow arriving so I'm not panicking yet.

Too fiddly for my liking. Now if someone would do it for me, I would certainly pay for their time.
The other problem is that all the buttons on the sides tend to wear out badly. I can't watch things without having the remote in my hand so I can quickly shift past crap I don't want to see/hear... it's tough being me.
