High pitched noise

Post by duke » Fri Jan 04, 2008 13:13

My P1 keeps making a high pitched noise that comes and goes. Only happens when the thing is turned on. Wasn't happening at all yesterday but did the day before and is again today.

Anyone else had this?

Any suggestons?

Does the noise come out of the P1 box or the TV/amp speakers?

If it comes out of the P1 box, is it from the power supply (right-hand as you face the front) end or the disk drive (left) end? If the sound's coming from either of those, it may not have too long for this world.

is it more just resonance from a HDD rattling a little and the lid resonating?

Yes, could be. If light finger pressure on the lid stops it, would confirm that as the source.

I was thinking more along the lines of switching power transformer on the way out or dodgy disk bearings. Always the drama queen :)

I bought my DP-P1 a couple weeks ago and it has been doing the same thing with the high pitched noise. I haven't determined the source on mine yet but I think it is worsened when its hotter. I adjusted my cabinet so there was more air flow over the Wiz and it hasn't been as noticeable.
