putting numbers in titles of recorded items

Post by m_r » Sat Aug 04, 2012 05:49

I could almost swear that I remember being able to do this - enter a program's title that included numbers...
But I find I cannot do so now; so maybe that was me being a halfwit.
I'd be really grateful if someone could inform me positively if this is or isn't possible...

Haven't done this for years, but IIRC, use the number buttons on the remote.

The number buttons on the remote can be used to enter both letters and numbers. There's a preference setting to allow the SMS-like entry order to be either 1abc (default) or abc1 (more like most mobiles).

But you can also use the coloured buttons to switch to an on-screen keyboard that has numbers and other non-alphabetic characters. GREEN, IIRC.

Well, it is this fact that has confused me.
You see, that's how I always enter titles of programs - seeing as how they show up so very rarely as the actual one (if you get my drift).
I use the green button for punctuation; but my failing memory had told me there was another page of numbers. Not so: I'm buggered if I know where I got 'em from.
Doubt I would've had the nous to use the remote like a mobile...
But then, you never know...
<grin>
Thanks for the input, Peter, uber-wiz that you are.

Oh! - I've just noticed your Black Mountain location... that rings a bell, alright.
Do you ever participate in the <gulp!> Dreamweaver forum, perchance? 'Cause if you do, you've helped me there.
You techo blokes are all over the place, eh?

No, sorry, I don't even know what the Dreamweaver forum is, so if someone helped you there, it wasn't me :)

I do post in the PVRs and (occasionally) in the EPG sections of the DTV forum, and in the IceTV forum, and I'm a reader of, but not a contributor to, the iiNet and Broadband sections of Whirlpool.

My posts in those forums are also under the "prl" handle.

You’ve probably worked it out by now, but none of the on-screen keyboards (special character keyboard included) have ever contained numbers. As Paul55 mentioned, the number buttons on the remote can be used for entering numbers.
I have the remote keyboard order under ‘SET-UP > Misc > Preference > Keyboard Order’ set to 2ABC to make it easier to enter numbers & use the on-screen keyboards for all other characters.
This works for me, even with the lack of the ‘space’ soft key in the special character keyboard (only in the lower & upper case letter keyboard).

Oh, the joy of being able to rename all 16 of my seasonal River Cottage episodes! - not to mention a French movie I recorded the other night called '99 francs'.
I knew nothing of those preferences, but it turns out that mine was set like that, anyway.
I have to wonder if the goddam opioids I'm on for pain relief are gradualy whittling my brain away entirely; for certainly I must have known once to use the numbers in the remote's number pad.
:-\
I thank you all: you are most kind.
