Video Format going from 334 to 320/301

Post by BP3 » Tue Dec 28, 2010 13:44

Due to continuing problems with recording and playback with the external HD with version 334, I have tried to go back to both 320 & 301. However, both versions output a narrow or stretched widescreen picture in live mode (ie black at the bottom and top). File play back is ok. I have tried all the format outputs (but mostly 720p & 1080i) but no improvement. I did not use 320 previously, and went straight from 301 to 334 because the H1 would often hang on power off with 320 installed. Is there something I need to reset to get the proper widescreen picture output in live mode.

Hi BP3,

Did you reset to factory defaults after the downgrade? The configuration was changed in the 01.05.334 firmware upgrade. When you downgrade I don't believe that recordings need to be removed but the tuner, favourites and EPG databases all need to be recreated with the matching firmware.

Regards,
Ian.

The configuration file that changed with 334 was services.dat where all the service scan information sits. You need to clear all services/rescan if you upgrade to 334 or back out of 334 to an older version, but I don't think a factory reset is needed. Of course, rescanning will clear your favourites and timers :(

Hi Peter,

The favourites data file is *definitely* affected. The EPG data is probably affected because the channel indexes have changed. I suggested the factory reset as a way to ensure that everything will work as expected.

Ian.

I've switched back and forward between 334 and earlier versions on a H1. I never needed a system reset. Doing a system reset as well will do no harm, but it will add to the inconvenience.

Hi Peter,

As we don't always know all the internal changes made by the Beyonwiz engineers I think we should err on the conservative side. We know that when moving firmware forward old settings can be updated but I suspect that this is not necessarily correct when rolling firmware backwards.

Ian.

Hi, Ian. As I said before, I've done this. On this model. I've seen the live mode aspect ratio problems that BP3 mentions. They are fixed by rescanning. There is a possibility that there are other less obvious problems, but given my experience, I'd recommend just a rescan, and then only do a full system reset if there seem to be continuing problems. BP3 has our recommendations now. I guess it's up to him which he chooses.

Thanks - A factory reset fixed the problem. On a general issue - whenever a firmware update is released it seems that on many occasions a new bug results. I have not yet upgraded to 334 in my P1 as it is working very well with 320. And I am now using 301 in my H1 because both 320 & 334 have problems.
