WizZilla & WizFX not Reading H1 files

Post by BP3 » Mon Oct 04, 2010 13:28

I have loaded the current version 01.05.334 to my H1.

H1, as usual can stream from my PC and P1. However, WizFX only detects my P1, not H1. WizZilla detects my H1 but gives errors (returns file name found but no data found, list index out of range).

WizPNP settings : client enabled, Server enabled.

On all recordings?

Can the P1 stream from the H1?

How does the H1's index.txt file look? You can view it in a browser from the URL http://my.h1.ip.addr:49152/index,txt

Post the first few lines of it if you're not sure whether it looks OK.

A file reindex on the H1 (FilePlayer, SOUNDTRACK) may help if the index.txt file is broken. You need to wait a minute or so after the re-index finishes before the index.txt file is rebuilt, then try looking at it in the browser.

Hi BP3,

What WizPNP name did you give the DP-H1?

Regards,
Ian.

P1 can't stream from H1.
my.h1.ip.adr etc does not go anywhere, just times out. Even if I turn my firewall off.
Fileplayer, soundtrack locked up the H1. I had to turn off then on. Second try ok but made no difference.

Where do I give the H1 a name in WizPNP. The only place I can see to give it a name is in ICETV and that name is DPH1.

It used to work on the last firmware, but I did not keep that for long because of the other bugs it had.

SETUP > Network > WizPNP > Name

Kind of obvious isn't it?

Hi Ian - Yes it is quite obvious. Not sure what I was thinking there. The name is DP-H1. Server and Client enabled.

Hi Bruce,

I don't have a DP-H1 so I am not sure what else to suggest. Have you performed the checks that Peter suggested?

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian,

Response to http://my.h1.ip.addr:49152/index,txt is "server is taking too long to respond"

Hi Bruce,

You did replace "my.h1.ip.addr" with the actual IP address of your Beyonwiz DP-H1? Is your WizPNP port on the DP-H1 set to the default of 49152?

Regards,
Ian.

You have a typo in there - it should be index.txt

Most likely not the reason but it won't help

Actually, that's my typo :) But the typo in index.txt should just give 404 - Not found, and not a timeout.

I am guessing he is trying to surf to the "demo/helper" hostname Peter gave rather than the actual Wiz IP address ;-).

I thought of that, and when I tested it I got Server not found (probably because of DNS lookup failure), not timeout. You will get the timeout if the numerical IP address is incorrect, though.

I can't copy any of the listing from WizFX but each line is identifcal as follows.

There is no file name returned...just a black square - although the files names flash up briefly then disappear.

Fiel Name Date Modified Size
"black square only" 17/11/1858 256

Any ideas?

H1 can stream from P1 but not vica versa.

The index.txt lines look normal, assuming that the H1 does have a folder Recordings/P1/Recordings.

The dates and sizes for the files, though, appear to indicate a missing or corrupted header.tvwiz file in the recordings. 17/11/1858 is the epoch (the date corresponding to the binary value 0 in a date field) of the Modified Julian Date used on the Beyonwiz for dates and times in recordings.

Are the recordings on the DP-H1 really in a folder called Recordings/P1/Recordings?

Do the recordings play correctly on the H1?

Have you tried a reindex? Press SOUNDTRACK while in the USB part of the FilePlayer.

If that doesn't help, try one of the other WizPnP clients for the PC like WizZilla or getWizPnP. They may give more informative error messages than WizFX.

Recordings are in the following folder (the same for a few years).
/Device0/Unit0_P1/Recordings/

reindex confirms complete.

WizZilla does not detect H1, but is ok with my P1.

I'll try version 01.05.320 which worked ok with WizFX. However I did not keep that too long because the H1 always hung when powering done with that firmware, so I kept 01.05.301 until the lastest version came out..

I'm not sure what "reindex confirms complete" means.

But anyway, it looks as though somehow the firmware is getting confused about the '_' in the "Unit0_P1". I run with a volume name on my H1, so I don't have that name, but coincidentally, I'm clearing out my H1 HDD to do some other testing, so I can try to reproduce this problem, too.

It's not possible to set the volume name on a recording USB HDD on Windows, only on Linux and OS X. If you have access to one of those, you could try setting the volume name to just alphanumerics, reconnecting the drive and re-indexing.

I've tried to re-create this problem in 334 by damaging the index setup for WizPnP on my H1 in various ways, but I can't get it to happen.

You could try going back to 01.05.320 or 301, and re-indexing there and checking WizFX again, and the contents of index.txt. If that works, you could either remain on teh old firmware or try going to 334 again.

As for what caused the problem, really the only way to investigate it more would be for you to load a version of 334 hacked to enable telnet, and poke around in your H1's filesystem to try to see what might have gone wrong.

It must be a bug with 334. I reloaded 320 and WizFX transfer works ok. Going back to 334 and I have the same probelm again.

Sorry - Just tried Wizilla transfer and it worked ok, its just WizFX that doesn't work with the H1.

Remember that WizPnP can't be used reliably on 01.05.334 anyway. It was a known bug in the beta, but a different problem from what you described originally.

Actually WizZilla is not that reliable with the H1. WizPNP keeps "terminating early" .

Although since reverting back to 334 I can now stream from my H1 to P1.

The problem appears to be intermittent and unpredictable. It may not continue working from the H1 to the P1.
