Networking H1
Networking H1
Hi
I just purchased a H1 to go on the same network as my S1.
I've enabled it as a client, and also given it Windows Sharing credentials. Unfortunately it doesn't want to see the S1, or any other PC on the network for that matter. Any address I manually try to use (by Find PC) comes back as Not Found. And yet the H1 can see the ICE TV service, and gets a DHCP address OK, so I'm assuming its networked to some degree.
All devices share the same subnet. Off the same switch.
I can ping my S1 from a PC on the network, but the same PC can't ping the H1.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Steve

Network has a router/switch (Linksys WRT54G). Internal subnet is 192.168.38.0. S1 is .4 H1 is .5.
I upgraded the firmware on the H1 to the latest release on the Beyonwiz download site. H1 can now see a Windows PC at .3 OK - that was a Windows Sharing authentication problem which I've since solved I think.
If I scan the network though, the PC (at .3) is all it can see. It can't see the S1 at the .4 address. I've also tried using the green button to specify 192.168.38.4, but it says it can't find anything at that address.
The S1's WizPNP settings are as follows:-
Client - Disable
Server - Enable
Name - bwiz
Port - 49152
I didn't set the port address. Is this correct? Should the H1 scan all ports at the .4 address anyway to find a WizPNP server?
Thanks

I have a similar setup H1 & P1 both connected via wireless. My setup:
DHCP works fine for me but, once connected, I 'reserve' the addresses for BWs and IceBox2.
Default port is fine.
Each machine has unique a name.
I enable Client and Server on P1.
P1 must be switched on for a couple of minutes in order for H1 to 'see' it.
I have the same Windows Share name and password for both machines.
The fact your H1 can 'see' the PC and contact IceTV is a sign that you're almost there.
Have you read the guides at http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/main.html ?
Try to provide firmware version numbers instead of 'latest'.

OK. Further info.
Both S1 and H1 are wired, not wireless. S1 has always been static at .4 I've made the H1 static at .5 (it was floating at a .102 DHCP address before).
Firmware of H1 is DPH1_Firmware_04Jun2009_ver_01.05.301
Firmware of S1 is DPS1_Firmware_04Jun2009_ver_01.05.301
I really can't see why it can't find the S1.

There is no "scanning" for the WizPNP protocol. It uses a broadcast protocol to initially identify WizPNP servers on the network (client broadcasts to find out if anything is around, server regularly broadcasts and answers to client broadcasts).
Now, someone was using a cheap switch once and the broadcast protocol wasn't working thru it, maybe this is your prob also? Does WizFX on your PC see your WizPNP server/s?
Regards

Yes, this bug is fixed in the current betas, and in the current betas, Beyonwiz now allow the WizPnP server to be enabled on a H1 with a recording disk attached. In earlier firmware, the H1 could only be a WizPnP client.peteru wrote:The H1 must have a registered USB drive connected for the WizPnP networking to work properly. It's a known bug that should be fixed in the next release.
A very small recording drive can be used to work around this problem. I've used a 128MB thumb drive in testing (I normally have a 250GB HDD attached). If the drive is < 6GB, you'll get warnings about the HDD being full every now and then. The up side is that even with a small HDD, you'll get EPG caching enabled.

That's good news on the H1 server being enabled. I've bumped into that problem with recordings on the attached usb hdd and not being able to watch on my P1.prl wrote:Yes, this bug is fixed in the current betas, and in the current betas, Beyonwiz now allow the WizPnP server to be enabled on a H1 with a recording disk attached. How do you find the streaming between the 2 on wireless?Paul55 wrote:I have a similar setup H1 & P1 both connected via wireless.
How have you connected the H1 wirelessly? A usb dongle or some other device?
I'm thinking of putting a H1 in my bedroom to go with my S1 in the lounge. Mainly I just want to be able to watch previously recorded shows from the lounge in bed.

Both my machines are connected wirelessly. P1 attached to a 4 port wireless g bridge (IceBox2) and H1 to a 4 port wireless n bridge (DAP-1522).
Both can play SD recordings from the other. I don't even try HD because I'm sure it won't work. Wireless n is the way to go for any video streaming IMO.
As a side note, you cam;t delete recordings from the ''other'' machine.

mmmm Thanks Paul.
Probably left me with more doubt than i had before. Great that SD plays, but would be frustration not to be able to watch something, just because it happened to broadcast in HD.
Perhaps I will just have to run some cable (I assume it will stream HD on a wired network). Have 200m in the shed, was hoping not to have to get in the roof.

HD only streams reliably using WizPnP from another Beyonwiz over wired Ethernet if the Beyonwiz being streamed from is doing nothing else, not even decoding live TV. It works best if the WizPnP server is put into the FilePlayer or Setup menu.barrel wrote:... Perhaps I will just have to run some cable (I assume it will stream HD on a wired network). Since this problem was first found, the average bitrate for HD has reduced because of the additional SD service that each broadcaster carries, so the problem may not be as bad as it once was.

Wireless N should work as well as wired ethernet, properly set up. However, whether wired or wireless N there is still the limitation of data transfer rate of WizPnP as prl has pointed out.barrel wrote:Perhaps I will just have to run some cable (I assume it will stream HD on a wired network).
