avi playback broken
avi playback broken
I recently upgraded to DPS1_Firmware_04Jun2009_ver_01.05.301.wrp. Since the upgrade I've noticed some problems with playback of some avis, specifically Disney animated short cartoons. When the on screen movement involves upward or downward movement, the moving part of the image shatters, with horizontal black lines forming. Things return to normal as soon as the movement in the cartoon stops. There are no problems with slow movements, or still frames. The effect is to give the cartoon a jittery appearance whenever there is fast movement up or down. This has been introduced with the latest version; the same avis played fine with the last version.
Can I back a version off by reinstalling an old version?

Check and see if the avi is packed or not, Avidemux 2.5 can unpack the file and may make a difference.

Have you checked to see if it is a packed avi?
Another program you could use to check is MP4modifier http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MPEG4_Modifier

Tried MPEG4 Modifier, and yes it was packed. So I unpacked it and tried playing it and it made no difference.
This problem doesn't show up on modern cartoons like Shrek, Bob the Builder, or live action stuff which is in the same format. I'm wondering if there's something about the old cartoons that is causing the problem.
If you guys need a copy of the avi to test with email me an ftp address jimnsharon AT pacific DOT net DOT au and I'll upload it for you.

Progress.
When I play them on the PC (Real Player 11.0.2) the same thing happens, but with nowhere near the same visual impact. I tried the originals on the TV and there's nothing there, so something in the process of turning them into avis has screwed them up. Also, I've watched them on the BW before and never noticed this, so although it must have been present it can't have been as bad as it is now.
So now I'm thinking that something done to the avi player has intensified the problem.
Also, I can easily rescan the DVDs, so if anyone has suggestions on what settings I could try to eliminate this I would be greatful for them.
