Audio Output 5.1 Not available

Post by Bob Sparshatt » Tue Jul 28, 2009 08:33

Hi

I only have the 2 Speaker and Passthrough options for my audio output, but i want to use 5.1

I am connecting my DP-P2 to the TV using an HDMI cable (only for vision), and using an optical cable to connect to my AMP

Why can't I select 5.1 Speakers?

Cheers

Bob

Because the 5.1 S1 option is for analogue outputs (with 6 RCA connectors). If you set it up to passthrough you will have a small glimmer of hope, but I doubt it will work as your TV will tell the Beyonwiz "I only understand stereo, so please only send that" which the Wiz will oblige with 2 channel PCM only over HDMI. You need to connect the optical/coax output on the Wiz to your amplifier, and you will get 5.1 for those broadcasters that bother to send it, when set to passthrough.

the only problem is that i have my foxtel connected through the beyonwiz and if i select pass through i get no sound at all from the foxtel input

if i change my connection to component will i be able to select 5.1 - the only problem being that my digital picture will be reduced

very frustrating only getting 2 speakers working when i have set-up the surround sound

do you know of any way to trick the HDMI connection?

or can Beyonwiz write a patch to allow a change??

cheers

Have you followed the various suggestions previously posted for configuring the audio settings on the Beyonwiz?

Can you please try the following audio settings:
Audio format: Passthrough
Analog Output: Enable
AAC Output: Decode (unless you are sure your TV/Amp can decode AAC itself)
Dolby D Ouptout: Decode (unless you are sure your TV/Amp can decode DD5.1/AC3 itself)

Regards,
Ian.

I have tried everything in the handbook , but will try this configuration too

is there other setup documentation apart from the handbook delivered with the box?

Yes, there's a new version of the manual online.

There is also plenty of helpful information and advice contained within this forum. It is always worth a browse. Searching on topics of interest is also a very good idea. For example, the topic of sound settings has been covered here a number of times already.

Ian.

once you enable the analog decode option you will find the audio returns for passthru mode.

Maybe related to this :-

If using HDMI to a TV that enforces 2 channel digital audio how do you get 5.1 digital audio out of the SPDIF output. On my P2 the SPDIF and HDMI audio seem to share the same data.

Pioneer DVD player semi solves the issue with a "Disable HDMI audio" setting.

Thoughts ??

Passthru will be 5.1 to the SPDIF even though it will negotiate PCM stereo over the HDMI.
