suggested improvements for shutdown options

Post by eppo77 » Sun Apr 12, 2020 21:37

Any chance the following shutdown options can be added to a future firmware upgrade?
.
  • Shutdown when all active and imminently pending jobs completed.
  • Ability to disable shutdown when recordings completed, to allow use as set-top box, and not have it shutdown on you when briefly leaving the room.
  • Shutdown to NAS mode, to allow PC initiated backup of recordings via LAN, without having Tuner and/or HDMI Out active when not required.

That's already a feature. If you initiate a shutdown while recordings are active, The Wizv should ask if you want to shut down immediately or when recordings finish.

They're also already an option. That's called standby mode.

I get that message on my old P2, but not on my V2.

I've tried that, and had PC initiated backup jobs abort/fail because the V2 decided to do a full shutdown when there were no pending recording jobs at the time.

Set the timer to return to previous state after recording rather than into Standby or Deep Standby.

Not with the default power button action settings, and in any case not with the shut down menu.

Huh, you're right. I personally never use shutdown so it's not one problem I normally run into.

I'm sure I recall a message asking the lines of "shutdown when recordings are finished" though. Hows is that I've triggered? Or is that something that pops up as a result of a Auto deep standby timer?

From MENU>>Setup>>System>>Button settings>>Action on {short|long} POWER setting of "Immediate shutdown". It's not the default, though I believe it should be.

I suspect that more people use standby on their T/U/V boxes than use shutdown (though possibly some may do it simply because it's the default), so while I use shutdown on short power myself, I'm not sure that shutdown as a default would be what people want in general.

I've long thought that shutdown through the power menu should allow the user to do a "soft shutdown", going to standby to complete tasks and recordings, as well as allowing immediate shutdown (stop recordings and tasks immediately and go to shutdown straight away). See Add "later" option on shutdown via Power / Restart screen.

Also the "Immediate shutdown" in the "Action on {short|long} POWER setting" is something of a misnomer, because it's currently the only way to do a graceful delayed shutdown when tasks and recordings are finished.
