I'd like to see Matroska (.mkv adn .mka) file support.
It's an excellent container format - see http://www.matroska.org/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison ... er_formats to get an idea of why it's better than most others and easier to implement as well.

I asked the question and got an answer from Beyonwiz directly. I am not certain when it will appear or if they will encounter problems, but I am certain that it is on the Beyonwiz roadmap. I do not know to what degree this will work - it may be that you get a combination of HiDef on HDMI and PAL on ...

Not sure if the Snazio uses the same Sil chip for output, but there are at least two versions of the one that is used in the DP-S1. One version has a clock rate of 25-112MHz (1080i) and the other version can do 25-150MHz (1080p). It may be possible to overclock the slower version to still get 1080p,...

Of course there are ways around it for those who have the skills and resources, but it would not help the majority of people out there. The way I look at the situation is very similar to your point of view. As long as IceTV provide a good level of service at a reasonable price, I'm not going to do a...

Doh! My bad - I should know better. The drive I was thinking of was the Topfield TF7000HDPVRt drive. What I should have said about the DP-S1 is: That's not hard. The drive is just a standard IDE drive with FAT32 partitions. Doesn't take very long to unplug the IDE and power connectors and plug the d...

Re: Free EPG?
Anybody out there with Dave's skills that can pickup where he dropped it. The Beyonwiz uses the IceLink protocol to retrieve the EPG. This is a proprietary, unpublished protocol. It is completely different to the method that was used for Arion/Mediastar EPG uploads. Unless Beyonwiz publis...

Re: General questions
I have a Topfield and an XBOX running XBMC. Me too. Can the BW connect to multiple shares across the network. Yes. I use an XBOX running XBMC, in that you can define the shares that you want to use so I am able to pre-define where it will be looking for media. Does the BW work like this or will it ...

The number of connections is usually much bigger than the number of connected users or computers. Many FTP clients will use several connections at once, but even with SMB networking, you will get multiple sessions at once. For example, having a few explorer windows open at the same time as copying a...

The digital tuners work as computer network cards. They just receive data packets from the antenna. The chipset in the PVR then does the decoding of the data packets to generate the video and audio. The chipset also has the equivalent of a graphics card and a sound card. These are used to output the...

No problems with 802.11g streaming either. It works fine for almost everything. Some high bitrate content (such as 1080i) can cause issues, but in general I am happy. For the rare occasions when I really have to have a high-bitrate source, I would probably use a portable USB HDD rather than pull out...

Did you see a smiley face? I'm giving you a point of reference. No such troubles are evident with another manufacturer's amplifier. In fact, no one else is reporting the problem you describe. The most likely explanation is that your Bose system is at fault. More often than not, such problems can be ...

You don't even need to use the second tuner for an overlapping recording. All the required data is already delivered by the first tuner. It just needs to be written twice so that the data ends up in two files. Actually, given the way the DP-S1 stores recordings on the disk, it only needs to be writt...

Chuckles: I take it that this is your first PVR with the ability to timeshift? Those of us who have been using such PVRs for a few years have now changed our viewing habits to a point where we always attempt to skip commercials, rather than change channels. What you describe is actually a rare occur...

Step 1: Install the Stylish extension. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108 Step 2: Restart Firefox. Step 3: Go to http://userstyles.org/styles/2603 and select to install the style. Done. From n...

The DP-S1 recorded files are handled differently to most other PVRs. The internal drive is FAT32 and the recordings are segmented into 32MB chunks that contain partial transport stream data. There are also several files that hold metadata which is used to describe the recording and index the individ...

This invitation originally started on the Topfield forums. A few of the people who were interested in attending can't make the 16th and I can't do 23rd. At this stage, I would only propose a meeting on the 16th, if I can get at least two people to attend. Any takers? Depending on the feedback, I wil...

Could the forum admins please make a few changes to make the text more readable on the forums? I propose: Make a second copy of the current skin. Modify the new skin so that it does not specify any particular font name. Ideally, replace the font-family definition with "sans-serif" on the f...

Indeed, that approach would be ideal, since it would be a true continuous 2 hour time shift buffer. However, changing channels while watching in delayed mode should still drop you into realtime mode, so that you a) get to see the channel you just changed to and b) realise that you may no longer be r...

How about a compromise? If you are watching in timeshift mode and try to change channels, the first keypress will stay on current channel but jump to real-time. It would take a second keypress to change the channel. This would be quick to use, it's just a double-click, but at the same time give you ...

Probably too late, but the symptoms you describe are typical of network speed settings mismatch. If you are using 10 Mbit network, then your card should have been set to 10 Half-Duplex. If you are using a 100 Mbit network, your card should have been set to 100 Full-Duplex. If you don't get this righ...
