It's starting to sound like a hardware problem. A long shot, but probably worth trying, would be to try a different USB cable. I definitely shouldn't take that long. It's stuck in the part of the process that actually does the formatting.

Does it work any better if you connect the HDD to the other USB port?

Purchased a new hdd, tried formatting but is not advancing from 51/100. The steps in the progress bar are the basic steps in doing the format: unmount the HDD, repartition the HDD, format the HDD, mount the HDD, and it can sit on the format step for a while. What model Beyonwiz? Which firmware version? Do you have any USB HDDs connected? The most common cause of this is when a V2 is started with the normal recording HDD is connected to the USB3 port and a FAT32-formatted drive connected to the USB2 port. If that's the case, shut down the V2, disconnect ...

The T4 (and U4) can only record from HDMI. If your VCR doesn't have HDMI output (which is likely to be the case), the T4 can't record from it, unless you find a converter from your VCR's A/V output (likely to be composite video or S-Video, and analog audio) to HDMI.
