The article doesn't say PVRs are dead, just that 'niche' company PVRs are dying/dead. Freeview may still just be getting off the ground, but it is probably going to increase market share dramatically in the next few years. I'd expect players like Sony and Panasonic will be offering Freeview PVRs som...

These days with unlimited internet you can afford to download 720p versions of the latest TV shows. I agree with most TV shows there's no excuse for not watching in HD. Downloads are ~1Gb per show. Solder sounds like a good idea. Just yellow pages a TV repair store in your area and wander down. Presumably they could apply the fix on the spot for $10.

As mentioned switch to manual time. Try figure out which way to manually adjust your timers. Alternatively set your weekly (1 hr) timers with 2-3 hours buffer so somewhere in there they catch your show (drive space permitting). Otherwise make a note of the time changing procedure and get a friend to...

PVRs (and hard drives) can run pretty hot. Hot enough that its uncomfortable to place your hand on them for a while. I'm not sure you're correctly diagnosing your issue? You said the first drive worked fine outside the BW. The second drive was as at issue in the BW. You now have a third that seems t...

A BW Lite would offer basically the same functionality (With no LED and no AV inputs) and cost about $380 delivered to give you an idea of a potential replacement cost. You should be able to get it repaired for a fair bit less than that though. Its possible the unit showed up issues at the factory. ...

Perhaps make a note of the button presses required to restore your image.
i.e. STOP, EXIT, EXIT (to get back to just the TV being on)
Then MENU
Then DOWN, ACROSS, OK
Then 3x Down and OK.
I just made those up but you should get the idea.

They occasionally up the drive size. So there is no correct listing.
But all sites should have a product differential. With the base model being listed and then other models being just what's beyond that. Makes comparison much easier.
