Connecting P1 to PC via Netgear WiFi Router?
I have a new PC and to my horror I realised it doesn't have a spare network port. Thus, I can't plug my P1 into my PC anymore because the network port is used by my Optus Netgear Wi-Fi Router. However, I do see that the router has 3 spare network ports on it... am I crazy to assume that if I plug th...

I don't work for Dick Smith Electronics, but they do have a 7-day no-questions-asked refund policy for most things. (Things like batteries, cut-to-length cables, software, etc, are not refundable). Or, just pay by credit card, and do a chargeback with your bank if the store refuses to refund. It's t...

Re: Skip/jump/FF etc
On the BW, you can't do this. You either have to 'fly blind' (press skip quickly for some count, hoping you'll reach the program restart), stop and wait for play to catch up. If you've overshot, you have no idea how much because you didn't see anything along the way. Or you can press-and-wait, pres...

"Loading" with audio only playing
Noticed something weird today with my P1. I went to play an AVI video over my network and the BW stayed on the "Loading" message, with the hourglass animating, and the audio only of the AVI was playing, but not the video. Here's the MediaInfo, if that helps. Firmware 350. A bug? General Co...

You should go to the advanced tab, and ensure the folder enforces permissions on children entries, or else the next time you copy a file or folder to that share, it will have your PC main user permissions and you will be in the same boat Yep, I think somehow that wasn't set anymore (for whatever re...

OMG, I can't believe what I just discovered about my P1! Remember in another thread (http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6293) I was complaining that no matter how I encoded my videos, the P1 wouldn't play them, and kept reporting "Unsupported format"? And I got lots of help ...

probably easier to buy a cheap media player and find a spare input on the TV Not a bad idea, actually. My media folder is 760 GB, so it'd be good to free up that space for my PC apps instead of using it as media storage. It means I could also take my media wherever I go, and not have this encoding ...

I just can't win with my P1 at the moment. There used to be a time I could download (or convert) any video and it would play it. Now, 99% of the time I get "Unsupported format" errors. Even the other day, the P1 would play a WMV file (without audio though!) but now it says, for the same fi...

AVI files not showing in network
I just copied a bunch of AVI files to my "Media" folder on my PC, in a subfolder, but none of the files are showing on my BW when I browse it via the network. But if I browse to other folders in my "Media" folder, other AVI files show up just fine. What might cause this? Filename...

Timeshift jumps to live by itself in 334
Since updating my firmware from 320 to 334 on my P1, I've noticed that if I'm watching the timeshift buffer, it may (seemingly randomly) jump back to the live feed by itself. This occurs even when no timer is fired or anything. Just watching. I thought it was just a one-off, but it's happened about ...

I'll definitely try moving the antenna first, just to confirm if that's the cause. It was raining heavily when I got home yesterday, but hopefully not tonight or before Thursday. Everything is still secure and non-corroded from what I can see. It basically went from one day showing ABC/TEN, to not showing them the next morning when I turned it on. For the past week now I can't tune in any ABC or TEN channels at all. Both my Beyonwiz
and TV itself can't get them with a re-scan. I assume the birds have stuffed my antenna?

Riddle me this: why does my P1 fail to play a certain AVI file that I encoded, and indeed it says "unsupported format", but if I select "Info" for that file in the popup menu, the smaller thumbnail video of the AVI plays just fine! What the? One second it's saying it can't play i...

REW and FF are a rough and ready method of scanning media. They are not designed for accurate positioning. Hey, if a DVD player can do it with digital media, even when scanning at 32x speed, then IMHO so can the BW. As a coder I feel it's laziness not to do it properly. All the BW has to do is note...

An update to this: today I started getting lots of splatting and blockiness again, so I went outside to check and sure enough, there were 3 pigeons nesting on my antenna! Signal loss due to bird poo?
I've had a lot of digital splats and signal loss lately, at random times. Tonight, when it started again, I took a torch outside in case it was a bat or something on the TV antenna, but it wasn't. What I did notice, however, was lots of white bird poo all over the antenna. Could that coat enough of ...
