Re: DRM is the gotcha
According to the ad: (if it can be believed, and correcting the poor grammar, which doesn't speak well for its quality), "it converts DRM using a process which records original files when they play and saves the recordings in unprotected digital format". So it does not defeat DRM by decry...

Re: DRM is the gotcha
The iTunes DRM on audio allows you to burn a limited number of copies to CD. Does the movie DRM allow something similar? No it doesn't. And the software linked to above doesn't deal with the Apple DRM ("FairPlay"). At the moment there is no way around it, apart from the software mmorrisse...

I also recently got a new HDD for my media sharing and the copy of my old stuff may have rearranged the order. I actually think this could be what's happened, PRL. I just moved all the files to a new directory (using mv *.* to make sure it moved alphabetically) and they now show up alphabetically o...

Incidentally, Vuze is turning into one great big copyright violation; I hope they weren't thinking of floating on the stock market or anything... I thought Vuze started out as one great big copyright violation, and was trying to go straight... but we all know how that one always works out.

I am amazed how people choose to blame Beyonwiz for *all* bugs and issues, no matter when the fault actually occurs. Given Beyonwiz's past record of being open and willing to talk about the issues with us I am prepared to accept Beyonwiz's comments about where the bugs are until I am given cause to...

Once you have ripped using MacTheRipper, convert them using Handbrake. It's free and will give you the highest quality in the least time. But the higher the quality, the longer it will take. I too have to say that I'm very impressed with the new firmware. The media player has gone from being a basket case to being pretty solid. MKV playback s...

Well, don't worry, it's a complicated setup. It only looks simple to me because I've got a similar one! The Beyonwiz P1 has only wired Ethernet, but GB's is wired to an Airport Express access point which then communicates via wireless 802.11n to an Airport Extreme base station, which is then wired t...

While your network is 11n, your BW is an 11g device, thus the discussion of 11g. Your 11n wireless network will slow itself down to 11g speeds to talk to your BW. As an aside, connecting 11g devices to an 11n network will have a negative impact on other 11n devices too. Dude, you've got to read the...

Peter, I recall from previous posts that you are running a P1 plus Airport Extreme. If so, that sounds similar to my setup. From memory the Beyonwiz has trouble with a few of the default settings in Handbrake. One of them is chapter markers. The other is anamorphic picture aspect ratio. Try turning both of these off. Both MP4 and H.264 vary widely in their implementation and it's often difficult to work out what exactly ...

Most important thing is to make sure your QNAP's firmware is the latest available ( http://forum.qnap.com/ for latest official and beta releases; the last official release has fixes specifically for the Beyonwiz). The reason I like the 109/109 Pro is that it is fanless and so quiet. The others all have fans, bit of an issue if you want to put them somewhere where the fan noise would be a problem (like in a walk-in-robe where my switch is and so where the qnap is most likely to go). It also seems that goo_roo...

Given that adds are typically 30s long, with some at 15s and some at 60s, with usually no more than about 6 in a row, I'm sure that skipping them all in 3 seconds is not too much of a problem at the max speed of x60 So we need buttons that fast-forward at 60x for exactly 30 seconds and rewind at 60...

Howdy Samurie You might want to consider an HDMI switch like the Joytech Trilink (~$50) which has 3xHDMI in and 1xHDMI out. Use your HDMI->DVI cable to connect the switch to your TV, and run HDMI->HDMI cables from your Beyonwiz and Oppo to the switch. Buy them online and they're pretty reasonable. T...

If you can afford it, you might want to get a separate 802.11n access point to plug into the BW via wired ethernet -- I think Netgear makes one in the same series as your router. That way you wouldn't have any of these wireless compatibility problems and you'd get the full benefit of 802.11n speeds.

It's just a trial at the moment, I'd wait until they finalised it before giving it the thumbs up or down.
But, hard to argue with extra HD programming, no matter how little. If they could see their way to sticking all the native HD on the HD channel and everything else on SD, that'd be pretty sweet.
