it either stops and freezes on last frame or dumps back to file index , no reboots etc .

i say network playback , as i have not seen the issue for on board files (tv recordings etc .)

its random and will not do it in same plase on the same file.

I updated from an old DP-P1 which has been reliable for the last xx years ... since they first first came out anyway .

The u4 is faster , the media file playback is way better instant start , GUI is slick, and overall what you'd expect from 10 years of progress.

My U4 just asked to update software, and this has fixed the issue completely. The DP series has quite limited support for more recent file formats and resolutions. The T series should have had no trouble playing those 1080 .mkv files, and the U4 is even more capable in that regard. That said, you can't say 100% for certain without details of those files.
