I have found a way to make the T3 a networked drive so that I can drag and drop files to and from the T3. I can also watch files directly from the T3 drive on my PC. I had tried all of that before I asked.
Now without me doing anything to my box it has started working.
I hope it continues while I am away as I won't be able to try anything else for many weeks.
