Edit: Not a problem. I've found the reason - see the last line.

I’ve just updated to YARDWiz 0.4.4 from 0.4.3 on the Win8 Notebook & the XP Desktop (I didn’t really get to try 0.4.3).
With 0.4.3 still on the XP Desktop & with 0.4.4 on the Win8 Notebook, one difference I noticed between the two; you appear to have rounded the size in MB to one decimal place in 0.4.4 whereas in 0.4.3 it isn’t rounded. In 0.4.3 (when it was still on my XP Desktop) I noticed the titles bar showed ‘Size (MB)’ whereas the titles bar in 0.4.4 (on my Win8 Notebook) showed ‘Size (...’.
On the Notebook there is still plenty of space between ‘Length’ & the scrollbars, & the ‘Size’ column can be dragged wider to display the title correctly.

I thought the reason for this was due to the size of a couple of recordings being displayed to more than one decimal place in 0.4.3 (one in particular was displayed as 383.0909729MB in 0.4.3, & displays as 383.1MB in 0.4.4). However when I upgraded to 0.4.4 on the XP Desktop I noticed the titles bar showed ‘Size (MB)’ even though all the same recordings had been rounded to one decimal place.

I then thought the reason was probably due to the different screen resolution between the Desktop monitor (1680 x 1050) & the Notebook screen (1366 x 768), but when I connected the Notebook to the Sony TV via HDMI I still got the truncated 'Size' title even with higher screen resolutions selected in Windows. The only doubt about the tests on the TV; the desktop images & text displayed on the TV screen became smaller as the resolution was increased up to 1920 x1080.

This isn’t an issue for me, just an observation - it looks a lot neater when rounded to one decimal place & the ‘Size (MB)’ title being truncated is here nor there.

BTW – ‘RELEASE’ in the YARDWiz directory is a bit hard to read with Windows Notepad – but not a problem with Progammer’s Notepad 2.

Edit: Solved ... On the little 11.6” Notebook I forgot I have the size of all items on the screen set to 125%. When I set it to 100% the ‘Size’ title displays correctly.

Hi Luke,
Thanks for the Beta Update. I just tried it and encountered an error in installing it. The installer advised it could not fine YARDWiz.exe. I Retried without success, and then Ignored, and the program installed. It starts, but then exhibits the same behavior as the previous version - freezing when updating the recording information from the PVR. I tried unistalling the program, downloading another copy of the Beta installer, and reinstalling, but the same issues occurred. The error message no longer comes up in YARDwiz, instead Windows advises that getWizPnP.exe has stopped working.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...
BTW - I tried an older version from a backup - Ver 3.8.1, and while it did report an error, it did a complete read of the PVR and would allow downloads etc.

Hi, Luke.

I've just tried out YARDWiz 045 beta1 with the new version of getWizPnP, and it has no problems scanning a BW that has a recording doctored so that it would cause infinite recursion on the previous getWizPnP release.

However, I got a YARDWiz popup telling me there were error messages in a log file. I was expecting the messages to be the error message from getWizPnP about the truncated header.tvwiz, but they were YARDWiz errors, all like this:

The recordings that cause this are ones that don't have a date/time stamp in their index name. I can't recall what I did to the recordings that made them lose their date in the index name (they still have it in their recording folder name). Perhaps a rename?

The error means that the recordings don't appear in YARDWiz in the list of recordings for the device, and when the recordings list finishes updating, YARDWiz hangs still showing Connecting... in the status bar at the bottom and with the progress bar at the bottom with just the green highlight pulse drifting across it. It's not responsive to the EXIT button, File>Exit or the Windows red X button to exit. I need to use the task manager to kill it. The task manager doesn't show either getWizPnP.exe or perl.exe, so perhaps getWizPnP has exited, but YARDWiz still expects some more output from it?

Curious. There's been no change in the part of getWizPnP that handles discovery. I find that on Windows getWizPnP discovery seems to break and fix itself at random.

It's likely a corrupt cache file. Try deleting the .cache files in %APPDATA%\yardwiz and reinstall 1.1. If it persists, I can look into it further.

Bingo, you're da man, yes siree. That was it, the two .cache files were both 7 bytes long and appeared to contain -

Just to add that development of getWizPnP, the commandline recording downloader that sits under YARDWiz has also effectively stopped. I have a couple of DP machines packaged up in the garage that I could dig out if there was a need to fix a major bug in getWizPnP, I doubt I'd be likely to do any other work on it.

Also, while the author of getWizPnP (the engine underneath YARDWiz that actually talks to the PVR) still has some DP series recorders, they're all in boxes in the garage.

I have, though, recently been thinking about adding the ability to generate T series compatible .ts.meta files to getWizPnP so that the copied recording contains things like the program synopsis when a conversion to .ts format is dome.

YARDWiz doesn't run on MacOS Catalina (10.15.x). YARDWiz is 32-bit, and Catalina only allows 64-bit programs to run.

Workflow has changed a bit with tidying up the H.264 recordings.
Can no longer use ProjectX to edit and keep subtitles in sync but I found that MKVToolNix GUI can directly take the TS file directly and apply cuts while preserving subs.

Requires manually typing cut point timestamps.

In MKVToolNix GUI Drop TS file into the Input tab - you can see the sub title track is automatically there in SRT format.
In the Output tab
Split mode = By parts based on timestamps
Parts = (hover over the box to see the help text) a comma separated list of timestamps to keep and prefix range with + to write to same file.

I play the video in my default video player MPC-HC; skip to breaks; pause and note down the timestamps in the form of HH:MM:SS.nnn in the bottom right hand corner of the window (right click to specify high precision timestamps)

Here's an example I did recently which tops+tails and cuts out three ad breaks.

I actually write them in notepad one range per line then combine into a single line when I paste it into MKVToolNix GUI.

Would be nice if MKVToolnix GUI could preview the file and calculate the timestamps or even if another video player/editor could copy and paste the timestamps to avoid typos. Maybe someone knows a better application?

Even though one can enter timestamps in ms I think MKToolNix GUI actually uses the nearest keyframe like ProjectX.
The cutting is very fast as it doesn't re-encode. Doesn't seem to be worth re-encoding the H.264 broadcast to save space as it's already quite efficient.
The log file looks like it is able to correct for errors in the broadcast stream.

I did come back to this forum after many years to see if anyone had a better free method these days but couldn't find one so I'm happy to post my solution.
I thought Da Vinci Resolve might work but it couldn't seem to read the TS file nor the MKV.

I know there are some commercial solutions solutions like Video Redo and TS Doctor but MKVToolNix is free and it's not too much effort to type in around 10 timestamps accurately. The application checks simple errors like erroneous spaces, mixing up colons and periods or out of range times. You can skip the milliseconds if you are not too fussy.

Thanks for that. It's a bit tedious, but it should be workable side-by-side with Avidemux to find the correct timestamps. Avidemux will tell you which frames are I-frames, so that may help with placing cuts in locations that avoid issues.
