Setting up directories & bulk stocking.
Setting up directories & bulk stocking.
I have two queries, but sort of related. How do you erase all recordings in the junk directory?
Currently as a new user I had been recording tv programs, which ended up in the "movie" directory as a list.
I have managed to sort them into groups, and in date order, oldest first.
I now have pages of recordings to scroll through tediously to find individual items.
Can I create other directories (folders) to hold each group ie: Antiques Roadshow", "Bargain Hunt", Midsomer Murders, Escape to the Country etc.
IF so can I then transfer the existing recordings into that directory?
Many Thanks Ted

Re: Setting up directories & bulk stocking.
I'll assume you're referring to the Trash directory.
In the media selection listing, select the Trash directory - observe that the RED button changes to 'Empty trash'. Press RED.

You can of course simply make your own directories manually if you want to, but Series2Folder makes that process much easier.
Open the MEDIA scree, then press MENU and explore the options in there for setting up buttons and manipulating files and directories.

Re: Setting up directories & bulk stocking.
You can also use Series2Folder to put existing recordings into directories, as well as having it look after future recordings.

Just out of interest, what's the signifigance (if any) of the 'empty trash' button pop-up that states that "recording(s) are in progress or coming up soon"?Grumpy_Geoff wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 16:39In the media selection listing, select the Trash directory - observe that the RED button changes to 'Empty trash'. If you are not using IceTV, you can configure timers and autotimers to record to a directory of your choice.

I've never been quite sure, but it is possible to record directly into the trash folder or a subdirectory of it.

Re: Setting up directories & bulk stocking.
A lot of that stuff is leftover code that was introduced for certain PVRs decades ago. Their I/O performance was so bad that timeshifting, recording and deleting at the same time could cause dropouts in recordings. The code could be removed, but given how bad the I/O performance can get on cheap microSD cards...
Re: Setting up directories & bulk stocking.
Thanks guys, wasn't aware you could record to the Trash directory ... all good

It's a workaround for people who want to autodelete things like news recordings.

Re: Setting up directories & bulk stocking.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to solving my problem, but I'm afraid I have no idea how to download an ap into the PVR.
It's not connected to the internet or to my (old) PC. Apparently it can be done manually.. I'll have a go, hoping nothing is un-redeemable.. lol
cheers and thanks Ted

Re: Setting up directories & bulk stocking.
It can only be done manually, and the instructions on how to install it are in the Installing and updating section of the the Series2Folder plugin post that Grumpy_Geoff linked to. You want to download the v1.8 ZIP file. The downloads are in the Package downloads part of the same post.
If you decide you don't want to use Series2Folder, the same post has an Uninstalling section.

Re: Setting up directories & bulk stocking.
Dear prl,
Would you expect the Series2Folder extension to work on a BeyonWiz V2? I have followed the instructions and while I get a brief screen message indicating that the install worked, subsequent to this there are no menu item appears which would suggest that the install has added any functionality.

Re: Setting up directories & bulk stocking.
To access Series2Folder you press Media, select a Movie and press MENU. It's (edit: near) the end of the list of options, which is on the second page sometimes.
After you configure it it requires no attention (edit: but you can manually invoke functions).

Re: Setting up directories & bulk stocking.
Media selection screen plugins only appear in the menu if the current item in focus is a recording or media file (i.e. not a directory or trash). That's the case even where particular plugin functions don't care where the focus is.
And it's normally near the end, not at the end.
It can be set up that way, or for various different levels of manual intervention. I have it set up to only automatically move things into directories that already exist. Then I use Sel Series to Folder to create a directory when enough shows accumulate. It can also be run completely manually.

Dear All, okay I have the package installed now and it is working, thank you. Not so sure what happened but I re-installed it, re-booted and this time it worked. Thank you.
