Viewing DP-P2 via network on V2

Post by mtb » Thu Sep 19, 2019 23:59

Having just replaced one of our DP-P2 units with a V2, I was just wondering if I am able to view the DP-P2 across the network (ethernet) using of the V2. Is there a suitable extension or plugin available?

Sadly, no. There is no easy way to do this as the underlying operating systems are vastly different. The opposite is partly true though.

But first, you can use WizFX or Yardwiz to copy files to a PC and the V2 can be setup to see the PC or network storage. I used .ts file format when I did this ages ago. Otherwise, you can copy files from the P2 to a USB device and the V2 can then playback from the USB source. Not absolutely sure but you may have to convert the P2 files to the ts format for this to work. The native format is actually a series of small chunks played in succession.

The P2 can access the shared folders on the T series and the U4 so the V2 should also be accessible. However, this only works for SD playback on the P2. HD files are seen but I get a black screen on playback.

It's also possible to mount the V2's movie directory as a share on the PC, and then use WizFX or YARDWiz to copy straight onto the V2, if that's where you'd prefer the recordings to be stored (the bottleneck is the speed of transfer off the DP).

You do need to do that conversion. The new series Beyonwizes (T/U/V models) can't play the old DP/FV series recordings as-is.

Thanks folks,

I actually mis-communicated what I meant. I have no problem getting the existing data off the old disk, I actually meant streaming on an ongoing basis between the V2 and the second P2. Seems I can't do this sadly, ho hum.

No, we understood you would like to stream but, as it is not feasible P2 to V2, we jumped to options to make the files accessible some other way. No harm, no foul.

As noted, SD can work the other way: V2 to P2. However, any of the T/U/V series can do it both ways.
