Record Fails
Record Fails
Hi
My V2 has started failing over the last few weeks. It freezes up with the error: Write error while recording. An unknown error occurred!
I managed to get the messages file out of the box which I have attached. Not sure if there's any other log files I should look at?
I record to a NAS share which is operating fine for everything else and showing no errors.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Record Fails
Unfortunately, it looks like you rebooted your Beyonwiz between when you got the error message and when you saved messages.txt, so the messages.txt file doesn't cover the time when the error occurred. The messages.txt file only covers the time from about 20:51 to just after 20:52 last night (28 Aug). The messages.txt file is held in an in-memory filesystem, and the filesystem is (re-)created new and empty at boot time.
The "unknown error" message means that the recording process reported a recording file write error, but it wasn't due to the disk running out of space or because the device was mounted read only. Had other recordings succeeded that evening?

Re: Record Fails
Recordings seem to be starting fine, but failing mid way through. I can manually hit record and it will start again, but likely drop out again. I’ll grab the messages file again tonight when it next fails
Re: Record Fails
So update on this. Tonight got home late, found box frozen (live TV working in the background) but spinning wheel and NO error message.
I could ping the box, but web interface was down, so not able to retrieve messages file.
Looking at the NAS, it recorded half of the news and crashed around 6:33pm, did not start The Block recording until 8PM after I powered off and on via the switch on the back.

Re: Record Fails
Do you have debug logging enabled? (Menu > Setup > System > Log settings > Enable debug logs)
If so, check the debug log file. It might provide some more information. The location of the log file is listed in the Log settings menu item as listed above. I haven't got my V2 on at the moment but the location of the log files on my U4 is /home/root/logs.
If you need to view the log using the V2, select Menu > Sources / Files. You can quickly get to /home/root/ by pressing '5' on the remote then selecting /home/root/ from the Select a path window. Then you just need to scroll down and select the logs folder. There should be log files here with file names in the format Enigma2-YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS.log. You should probably start at the bottom of the list and look for a date and time around when you think the error occurred. You may also need to check the Enigma2-1970-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS.log files. To find the date and time these files were written, look at the second row of yellow text at the top of the column rather than the file name. To view the log file, just select the file you want and press the OK button on the remote. I've noticed that my U4 doesn't seem to open log files >1MB in size so you might need to copy these files off the V2 to view them.
I hope this is useful.

Re: Record Fails
So I checked the debug files and found network issues. I deleted my NAS connection and re-added it, and it's now working fine.
Only catch is, I seem to have lost my trash folder, so every time I delete a recording, it complains about not being able to move it to the trash. I tried adding a trash folder, but no luck. Does this need to be made in a special way?

Re: Record Fails
Is the message:
"Cannot move to trash
Do you really want to delete recording name"?
The trash folder needs to be called .Trash, not Trash, and it needs to be in the right place. But it should be created automatically when it's needed.

Re: Record Fails
Yes that’s the error
I had a lower case t so renamed to .Trash and it now has the bin icon but I still get the same error

Which folder have you created the .Trash folder in?

Re: Record Fails
Inside the DVR share where the recordings go (movie home folder)

Re: Record Fails
When it asks "Cannot move to trash / Do you really want to delete recording name?", what happens if you select Yes? Does it do the delete, or do you just get another error popup (or other unexpected behaviour)?
Where is the movie folder being shared from? Is it a Linux-based NAS, or a shared HDD on a PC, or something else?
If you go into the movie selection screen on the V2 and navigate to the top-level movie folder, what is the exact path of the movie folder, as displayed in the top right of the screen? Case is significant, as is whether the path starts with a '/' or not.

Re: Record Fails
If I hit yes, it does delete the recording.
Share is on a Qnap NAS
Attached a couple of screenshots showing the path and error

Re: Record Fails
All I can think of is that there's some sort of access error on .Trash, and/or on the directory where the Beyonwiz is trying to create it.
