Windows 10 Professional and BW network issue

Post by netmask » Sat Mar 30, 2019 09:54

A friend has just installed a new computer with Windows 10 professional. He installed all his old software successfully and the network was found except for the Beyonwiz. I took a look and turned on file sharing and all the usual changes..... The PC then found the BW but as miniDLNA Server. Clicking on this icon in his Network folder revealed his movies.

He is able to copy files or drag and drop files from this folder to any location on his PC. So this is good..

BUT

He cannot copy a file onto the BW movies folder.

I will when I get over there again try mapping to a drive letter. Will this overcome the problem? I'm anticipating I'll get a password request from the BW? He has a T2, probably the penultimate firmware upgrade...

I just copied a file from the PC (win10 pro) to the T4, no problems. I do have the T4 network mapped (drive Z).

I doubt it will be a drive mapping problem.

If he is trying to drag movies into the miniDLNA folder then this isn't going to work. He does need to be going via the "\\beyonwizt2\movie" SMB share.

If he is trying to use SMB, and if his firmware is out of date then it could be any number of things. Remember the old problems with multiple shares and passwords from the 16.1 series?

Best get them onto 17.5, and there should be no problems copying from Windows. There is still a problem mounting Windows 10 shares, but that is the opposite issue (fixed with the vers=3.0 mount option).

Follow Up: I discovered that in Windows 10 Professional you have to enable SMB shares in Control Panel -> Programs & Features -> Turn Windows Features On or Off.

Problem solved was able to map a drive to movie folder on the BW. Transfer files to or from.
