IceTV installation errors

Post by gregsfun » Wed Sep 17, 2014 15:43

I have just installed the latest firmware upgrade and then tried to install the IceTV plugin. When I select Menu>Plugins, IceTv is not displayed and I get the message:
Some plugins are not available:
SystemPlugins/IceTV (_init_() got an unexpected keyword argument 'show_help')
I have tried to install IceTV three times now with the same results.
Is anyone able to tell me what I need to do to get IceTV working.
(I already run IceTV on my other Beyonwiz boxes).

Have you seen the followup e-mail from Beyonwiz? They sent a link to the wrong firmware in the first e-mail.

You can also find the correct link in their post about the new firmware here on the forums.

No, I didn't see the follow-on email. Thanks for that - but....

I have now downloaded the correct version and tried to update the firmware.

Now it is asking me to format the HDD??????

I have posted this problem in Re: 'Latest Firmware Upgrade and Discussion' as the same problem is posted there. (I have a T3 with a pre-installed 4Gb HDD)

Help!!

IceTV query

Post by dunstan » Fri Sep 19, 2014 18:19

I have, with various wizards help, now got IceTV up and running. I can now sit at my computer and pre-plan and set up all my recordings. When in front of the TV however I can no longer tell if a programme is set to record by looking at the EPG. I have to exit from the EPG and call up Timer to check on recordings. Is there any way that this can be fixed in the future?

Ice recordings do show up in the EPG, but they are probably recording on a different LCN (channel number) than what is in your favourites.

Check the EPG when you have the "Terrestrial TCN" bouquet selected and see if they show up.

I have found that Ice seems to put the recording on the LCN with the lowest number.

eg. Ice will use ABC1 on LCN 2 instead of ABC1 on LCN 21.

I just edited my Favourites bouquet to use the lower numbered LCNs instead, and all was fixed.

Many thanks for that. I have just returned from doing as you said and all is now resolved. I guess life just wasn't meant to be easy. :)

I knew I spoke too soon. I started using the IceTV guide to set recordings and in the first two days have had one recording start too late and another finish too early. As they were both films that I wanted to keep I was none too happy. Any news yet on when IceTV will have fore and aft padding? In the meantime I have disabled IceTV and gone back to basics.

You don't necessarily have to disable Icetv to get your padding back. If you set timers from the t3 interface then you will get padding. It's only the timers set from Ice that will lack padding.

Mind you, since the FTA guide is more accurate, you may have to increase your padding settings if you sick with the Ice guide.

The accuracy of the FTA guide near the time that a repeating timer runs isn't all that relevant to the accuracy of the recording time, since the timers start and end times are taken from the guide at the time the timer was created, and it's not updated.

Autotimers are supposed to fix that by updating the timers dynamically, but even there, they will be updated only to the most recent FTA guide times that are available on the T3, and they have problems of their own.

Yea, I should have qualified my statement that FTA timers are *potentially* more accurate when used with autotimers, and in my experience I have found them to be very accurate indeed.

I had just been using autotimers for all of my T3 recording needs and have been very happy with them to date. Mind you I very rarely have overtlaps or record short shows, which is supposed to be where autotimers come unstuck.

Either way, I stand by my statement that personally, I would be using generous padding settings when using the Ice guide.

I can go with that. I use 5 min pre-padding and 25 min post-padding for my DP series IceTV timers.

Elsewhere in the forum it states that the padding does not work at present with IceTV. Is that still the case or has it been sorted?

T3 padding works with IceTV. The problem is that IceTV servers do not add padding to the recordings that they create. This will be addressed once IceTV work out how they want padding to work.

I have successfully installed that latest update, and setup IceTV successfully. It downloaded it's EPG without complaint.
However, every time i turn my TV on now, I see the attached message . It looks like the message keeps occurring over itself, as it takes a lot of 'Exit' key presses to get rid of them all.
Please assist.

Brian,

When you say you've installed the latest update you're presumably referring to the USB update. Have you also installed the latest online updates (which came out after the USB update)?

Chuckles, yes I have (now!).
However, now when trying to update EPG & timers, I get the below message.

Nothing to worry about. The IceTV server is getting itself confused about current timers. That error should not cause any issues, except perhaps the IceTV web site not updating once the timer is finished. Don't worry about it.

There is an update available to improve IceTV functionality, including client side padding.

Available now either as an online update or USB upgrade image.
