T4 reception issues

Post by Capt Billy Whizza » Sat May 09, 2020 18:49

T4 user here.

My T4’s been humming along for four years but finally having dramas. It started getting ‘bad reception’ on FTA a week ago. I redid a channel scan and it appeared to settle down, but randomly started pixelating on screen with all sorts of reception loud pops and crackles.

It doesn’t matter if it’s day or night – sometimes (rarely) I’m getting good signal.

* I’ve checked my aerial and plugged in a ‘bare’ TV.
* I’ve done numerous channel scans.
* Recordings are working fine (recorded before this problem, of course).
* On my last scan I decided to used Tuner C and now have most channels working tonight except ALL “Channel 7” channels! Any ideas?

I don’t think it is too old to be stuffed, but happy to listen to advice for which model to go for if it’s too expensive to repair.

Hopefully I've supplied enough info...

The T4 suffers from a common failure where the heatsink thermal paste attached to the tuner per regulators breaks down and eats the components on the motherboard.

Normally the first sign off this issue is the complete loss of signal on either tuners a+b or C+d. Your issue sounds similar, but the tuner sounds like it is on its way out a bit more slowly.

You can get it repaired if too much damage hasn't been done. Warkus in Perth can fix it for less than $100 in most cases.

Otherwise, the V2 is the only other Beyonwiz PVR currently in production.

Thanks, MrQuade - much appreciated.

I'll contact Warkus and see what he has to say.
