No audio when U4 power on.

Post by Pete » Wed Nov 14, 2018 21:50

I would appreciate if anyone can shed some light on my problem with powering on of my Beyonwiz U4.

I have my U4 connected to a Yamaha AV-X2070 receiver via HDMI. Most times, when the U4 is off and not recording, when I turn it on together with my TV and the receiver (via a Harmony 650 program) (in the order TV, Receiver, U4), everything comes up ok.

However, when the U4 is on timer recording (i guess it is then in standby mode), the video comes on, but no sound. I recycle power on the receiver with no effect, I put the U4 back into standby again no effect, I disconnect the HDMI cable and reconnect it again no effect.

If I go into Media and play a recording, there is also no audio, just video.

Only when I fully power-off the U4 (interrupting the recording) and re-power on, does the audio come up.

When I recheck the recordings, there is thankfully audio recorded. Just doesn't seem to want to send audio to the receiver when first woken up.

Is there some setting on the U4 or the receiver that I have gotten wrong?

Many thanks,
Pete.

No setting that I am aware of, but it sounds like your receiver is not successfully handshaking with the Wiz when the receiver is switched on.

I have never had the audio issue describe, but instead, I get no video. Very different issue in my case though.

Does your receiver have any standby HDMI passthrough or similar settings that you can toggle to test?

Thanks for suggestion.

I have reconfigured both the receiver and U4 to disable ARC, I have also changed the HDMI cable (but that's unlikely because on cold start, video & audio works).

The receiver is set to video pass-through.

The receiver is set to video pass-through.
Can you turn that off? (or do you need that specifically enabled?)

I am wondering if the receiver is set to passthrough, then the U4 is waking, attempts a handshake with the TV, because the receiver is bypassing itself (and I am assuming the TV is also in standby), and the TV stuffs it up.

I also have the same model TV, and I know from experience that it is bloody hopeless at HDMI handshaking.

Thanks MrQuade, that seems to have worked.
