Files not playing

Post by Gully » Tue Aug 18, 2020 12:51

I have been getting a few media files that I have grabbed not playing back without a bit of "massaging" and it seems to be happening more so recently.

So not sure if that what people are using, if we need some updates on the Beyonwiz.

Could those with the knowhow look at these two and see if there is anything obvious please.

Those have an encoding date of yesterday, and they are 720p 60Hz. They are GoPro footage or something that you have re-encoded yourself?

Doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary to me. The stated bitrate does seem a bit low considering the resolution and frame rate. I would have thought that 60fps data would be a bit hungrier than that.
From what I can tell that encoding should be within the decoding capabilities of the various Wiz chipsets......so someone more clever than me will need to solve this one! ;)

Not GoPro or re-encoded by me though I have tried taking them and re-encoding without success.

Well, yourself or an acquaintance I mean. Just going by the date and framerate though, they must be "personal" videos of some sort though I am guessing? ie. These did not come from a media ripping group or anything like that?

It might help to know what the general nature of the original video was before it was re-encoded by Handbrake.

No they were downloaded from a media ripping group as you put it. TV recordings originally.

Hmm ok. Just threw me off having 720p60 content available, and it set off an alarm that something may have been improperly encoded.

That's fine.

They play okay on my Nvidia Shield and PC so not corrupt, etc.

Not that it helps Gully but my experience has been certain formats (eg flv or was it avi?) play only if they have a very specific set of encoding parameters supported by the Wiz media player.

However, I've never encountered a file I couldn't re-encode. As far as mkv and mp4 are concerned, can't recall having a problem. Handbrake is my usual goto for re-encoding and I don't think I've ever had a problem with any of its output.
