What the hell is a T2 now?

Post by NoDeity » Thu Jun 25, 2015 08:41

Ok, so I see now that there is a T2 listed in the topics. Is it the same box again with lower specs or a different box all together? I Googled it and nothing comes up.

There's already been some discussion about it starting here.

I'll post some more details later if no-one else beats me to it.

The 700MHz processor on the T2 makes it feel very snappy and responsive like the T4. Doing it without a fan is just a bonus.

Proper 1080p output is a big plus too.

If you only have a need for three tuners, and don't mind not having a front panel display, and don't use PiP (who does?) the T2 is a really really great unit.

If you already have a T3/T4, then the T2 is the perfect unit to put in another room in the house.

I have a T3 and was thinking of a replacing it with a T4 as I've never had much luck with the usb tuner, but a T2 would give me 5 proper tuners spread over the 2 machines.
A few questions.
How seamless will the 2 machines work together.
If I have the T2 in the bedroom and the T3 in the lounge, I'm wondering how it would work with recordings spread over 2 machines.
Is the interface able to show one list of recordings, even if they are physically located on different machines.
Alternatively could the T2 store all its recordings on the T3 and then drag up the media list from the T3.

It's not quite as fancy as just having a big "pool" of tuners to record on. You still need to set up timers on one or the other unit.

You can most certainly have both units record to the same harddisk though. The T2 might be equipped with a small drive, or SSD, and you can simply send all your recordings to the T3's harddisk instead of it's own.

The T2 will happily stream recordings from the T3's harddisk, and your viewing progress will be saved with the file. That means you can watch half a movie from the T2, then pick up and resume watching from the same point on the T3 later on.

There is no simple way to show all the recordings as one list though (there is probably some fancy Linux directory merge that you could do, but that would not be straightforward). A single list of all recordings could get a bit long and unwieldy in any case (most people like to split their redcordings u pin different directories, even when they are all on the one box).

You can set up bookmarks to the "other" unit's harddisk though, so it is easy to navigate to.

Also, a T series unit can only *view* a stream from another T series unit. You can't record a stream that you are pulling in over the network. The network streamed tuner or "standby tuner" as it is called in the setup menus, is view-only at the moment.

The info that prl posted is from a pre-production test unit and packaging. I'm yet to see a production sample, but I believe there were some changes to the packaging at least.

Would that be the remote?
Universal remore control (STB / TV) [same remote shape / keys / layout as T3]
The T2 remote looks like the same layout as the T4.

No. That would be the one that I've already corrected.

Check the T2 remote in the online user manual here: https://beyonwiz.com.au/downloads/ its basically the same as the T4 function wise but is not backlit.

The factory printed the wrong remote in the user manual that will come with the T2, there is a sticker on the front page that outlines this and directs users to the online manual.

"sounds like a weapon", so it looks like a weapon, too ;)

The power pack is ~105 x 45 x 33 mm, lightly textured black, no power LED. Approx 1.5m mains cord with figure-8 connector to the power pack. Approx 2m DC power cord with standard 5.5mm DC power plug connecting to the back of the T2.

Label says:
OEM ®
Power Adaptor
Model: ADS0361-U120-250
Input: 100-250V [AC/frequency symbol] 50-60 Hz 1.0 A
Output: 12V [DC symbol] 2.5A

The DC power plug is positive inner/negative outer.
Or at least that's what my pre-production unit came with.

Not sure that a picture would tell you much more. Power packs are generally pretty boring-looking and this one is no exception.

My pre-production T2 came with a power supply that has a green LED.

So again, we'll just have to wait and see what the final units ship with.

this is a better style of PSU with 2 cables with a power pack in middle

the plug packs always seem to take up to much space in the power point rendering one side of double unusable
