Channel volume setting

Post by raj » Sun May 17, 2020 14:12

G'day,

Is there a plugin that can automatically set the volume for different channels?

I am not talking about sensing the volume and adjusting it, just something that can read a value set in a channel list and sets the volume to that setting. The default would be 0 which would be to do nothing however if the value was not 0, to set the volume to that value when switching to that channel.

It would have to be done via a plugin, but very useful as the various channels have volumes all over the place.

Thanks.

There's the 'automaticvolumeadjustment' system plugin -

The plugin is one way.

The other way is to disable Dolby downmixing.

The usual differences in volume are the result of the HD Dolby audio vs the MP3 SD audio.

If the Dolby downmixing is disabled, then the Wiz volume control no longer controls the volume of those HD channels. That way, you can tweak the SD channel volume down a little, then you just use your Audio devices volume control (your tv speakers or receivers volume) to determine your ultimate listening level.

Probably not much to thank for. I tried to make that plugin work and decided to walk away from it. By all means, give it a go, but don't get too excited. 8)

Using a plugin to adjust volumes seems like a nasty hack, and as-per PeterU's post, the thing probably doesn't work as intended anyway.

You are better off following my earlier advice, or PeterU's advice from this other similar discussion which was a bit more in-depth.
