Remote Control

Post by pauljwk » Thu Mar 10, 2022 07:49

I have a Beyonwiz V2. The remote control has finally died.
As a dedicated Beyonwiz user I have 2 BR-02 remotes from previous Beyonwiz units.
I have attempted to contact Beyonwiz tech support over the last 6 months with no response so now I'm trying the forum.

Question: Does anyone know how to get the BR-02 remote controller to work with the V2?

No, it's not possible to use the BR-02 remote with the V2. Only the V2 original remote and the U4 remote will work with the V2.

Yes, I think it is possible to use the BR-02 remote with the V2, but it requires patching the IR driver. The driver has support for three code sets, I could replace one with the BR-02 set (BE01, I believe).

I have just bought the replacement remote for T2 T3 T4 U4 from Beyonwiz - not delivered just yet but on the way.
https://beyonwiz.com.au/product/beyonwi ... e-control/

I want to use it for my U4 so I was wondering what remote control code setting do I choose.
I also have a T3 in the same cabinet with it's original remote so will the new one conflict with that. My wife uses the Harmony.

You can use any of the supported codes.

The T3 should be set to the 0xabcd codes already. You need to ensure that the T3 itself is set to only respond to those codes (which it should be already if it has been operating in the same cabinet already).

Just check to see what code set your T3 is actually using though, since you are using the Harmony, you could potentially be using any of the supported codes.

That means that you can set the new remote to use 0x02f2, 0x02f3, or 0x02f4, and then set the U4 to the corresponding code.

So what do you use for the V2 then?

I bought a replacement V2 remote and it died after about 6 months (sends the power signal constantly). Have tried contacting Beyonwiz via different means a number of times, zero response...

V2 is fixed to the 0xae97 code set and cannot be changed. It will only respond to a U4 or V2 remote control. (Or an appropriately configured Universal remote)

The bit that's confusing me is that the remote that was ordered includes the T series boxes which I thought use a different set of codes. So there's a remote that works for both T series and U4 and V2 boxes?
Thanks,
Rob

All of the beyonwiz remotes (T3, T2/4, U4 and V2) will work on all the T series and U4 boxes.

A T (T3, T2/4) series remote will not work with a V2.

The V and U use the same remote codes by default, but their remotes looks physically different.

I have just received a replacement remote control (Item 11725, presumably a BR-2) for my U4 and tried to follow Peter's post instructions (8 Sep 2018). After selecting the T3 remote control code (MENU>Setup>System>Remote control code settings, scroll to the code set), I can't confirm the selection (No/Yes) and am timed out.

The original remote had difficulties with certain buttons, primarily the "OK" button, but after several attempts it normally works. Multiple attempts to select the T3 code have failed. New batteries in the replacement remote, the STB button lights red, the TV button flashes red, but there is no further response.

Any suggestions?

I'm can't find any item numbers like that for any remotes on the Beyonwiz shop pages. I'm reasonably sure that a BR-02 remote won't work on any new series Beyonwizes.

It might be clearer if you posted a link to the Beyonwiz shop page for the remote you've bought.

The BR-01 and BR-02 remotes and the U4 remote all have the same physical form, but the BR-01 is screenprinted "BR-01" on the back, and the BR-02 and U4 remote backs have no screen printing. The BR-01 and BR-02 remotes have (almost) the same button layout, but of those, only the BR-02 remote can have its code set changed. The three remotes can be distinguished from each other by looking at the button at the top right: on the BR-01 remote, that button is EJECT, while on the BR-02 it's EJECT/AV bypass and on the U4 remote it's WIZTV/HDMI-IN. Other Beyonwiz remotes have different buttons at the top right.

If you can't confirm the new remote setting when you change the control code set in MENU>Setup>System>Remote control code settings, then you've selected the wrong control code set for the remote that you have.

It would be easier to make suggestions if it was unambiguous which new remote you have.

Does the remote look like this? https://beyonwiz.com.au/wp-content/uplo ... 80x480.jpg
If so, that's a "T3" remote.

Not the one I have. I thought it had the BR-02 screenprint, when I looked at it, it had nothing. Strange.

It seems the remote replacement is a BR-T3 as it looks identical to the image Grumpy_Geoff refers to in his posted link https://beyonwiz.com.au/wp-content/uplo ... 80x480.jpg, which has an SKU of BR-T3. My invoice stated "Item Beyonwiz Replacement Remote for T2 T3 T4 & U4 x 1 ID number 11725", which is where the 11725 came from. The remote has a plain back with no screen print on it.

I just set my test U4 to respond to a T3 remote. You need to select the Beyonwiz T3 (0xABCD) remote and press OK all using the U4's original remote (or a V2 remote), and then, when it asks "Is this remote OK?", change to the T3 remote and select "yes" and press OK. That way it knows that the remote you've selected on the U4 will work with the remote you want to use.

Previously I had mentioned that multiple attempts have been made to change the remote setting just as you've mentioned, Peter, only to be timed out over 30 seconds trying to get the original remote to accept the T3 remote setting by pressing "OK" multiple times with pauses in between. It doesn't seem to be just an issue with the "OK" button, as "OK" button still works, but with similar fault, after selecting EPG/Media buttons, which is why I chose to replace the original remote. I have tried to change the remote setting on different days and different times of the day as well, without success. Are there any other suggestions?

Yes, but you never referred to the "T3" remote.
Are you using the "T3" remote to answer the "Is this remote OK?" popup? You must use the T3 remote to respond to the popup.

Right, thanks. Didn't realise the V2 remote will work the other way around. Annoying the V2 doesn't have this flexibility to use the T remotes...

Is there a recommended aftermarket remote that works with the V2 (has codes already programmed in for it)? I've got my logitech with the hub in a box in the garage somewhere, but if it doesn't work with the V2 I won't bother pulling it out.
