T2 with USB Tuner

Post by Rob VDN » Wed Apr 29, 2020 13:58

Hi folks,
I have a T2 with USB tuner attached but can only record two different networks. I thought it was meant to be three networks. Am I correct and, if so, is there something I need to do to set this up?

Regards,
Rob

Should be three, if all tuners are working. Someone will jump in here and explain how sometimes the USB tuner gets misconfigured. Try rebooting the box and check tuner settings to see if they are all functioning correctly.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

+1 - then check Menu > Information > Devices and see if three devices are listed as DVB-T2 or DVB-T types. If not, repeat the switch off or reboot & see if the correct types are shown.

If yes, try recording three different networks simultaneously. If NOT ok, set Menu > Setup > Tuners > Tuner allocation > Preferred tuner to tuner C. Save and Exit to live TV and change to a different network.

If no reception, the tuner is likely to be a dud. Ditto if 3 devices are not listed.

PS I'll leave to others to explain what the underlying configuration problem has been as I've yet to be a victim of it.

Hi all,

My T2 is having issues with the bluey tuner I bought a few years ago. Every now and again it will disappear from the system. When this happens the T2 either locks up or just refuses to acknowledge it's existence. GUI restarts do not always bring it back requiring power off reboots which is very annoying as it interrupts the 2 recordings already in progress.

I have to consider that the bluey is starting to fail. I have ordered a replacement from eBay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mini-Digita ... Swhodfwblg hoping that it will arrive as advertised. There is a $10 off voucher for the next few days bringing the price down to a smidge over $15.00 .

I am hoping that my unsatisfactory attempts to upgrade to 19.3 will be fixed by this new device as I am getting very lonely in 17.5 land. :P

Cheers

A reboot is always required if the USB tuner is not detected. It's not "hot-swappable".

In my experience, they just fail, there's no "starting to fail" time.

I doubt a new USB tuner will change that.

Could you tell that to the tuner which insists on hot-swapping itself out of the system in the middle of viewing/recording!

There has been a marked increase in the number of times it has occurred in the last 6 months.
I doubt a new USB tuner will change that.
If the new tuner doesn't exhibit the same problems I will at least be able to say it is not a hardware, firmware or driver issue. Currently I can depend on 17.5 to last longer before crashing than 19.3 .

I want to be able to say to the missus that I did the 19.3 update and that nearly every recording made afterwards was not unwatchable instead of grabbing my trusty 17.5 USB stick and reloading it so I can watch the cricket.

I have to agree with Grumpy_Geoff that the norm is for the tuner to either work or fail. One of mine just stopped working though it was detected.

However, if you're experiencing intermittent problems then that's what it is. But I doubt that it has anything to do with 17.5 or 19.3 firmware beyond the faulty Bluey behaving badly on the updated drivers.

For peace of mind replace the Bluey first. If it's working ok, then upgrade to 19.3.

Cheers, Paul

The USB tuner needs to be placed on a solid surface where it can't be knocked/moved, as the slightest movement on the connection can sometimes be enough. Tape it down if you can.
