beyonwiz-19.3 20200328

Post by IanSav » Fri Apr 03, 2020 13:35

Hi BlakeJ1987,

You must *not* use the "skin_default" skin on Beyonwiz firmware!

This skin is provided from the base firmware that comes from the OE-Alliance. This skin has been updated to support all the Enigma2 images running more recent versions and capabilities of the Enigma2 firmware. (Beyonwiz firmware does *not* support many of the newer features that are available in the other images.)

I had tried to encourage Beyonwiz to update their firmware capabilities but have, so far, been unsuccessful.

For now please use the two Beyonwiz provided skins or you can use the older versions of OverlayHD as provided via this forum. I suspect that many, if not most, other Enigma2 skins will cause problems for Beyonwiz users.

Sorry for being the bearer of the bad news. I hope this information allows select a working skin and keep your V2 running properly.

Regards,
Ian.

If you want something really different, you might want to try out the OpenATV firmware.
https://www.opena.tv/downloads/23-beyonwiz-images/

The V2 was originally tested using this firmware before the Beyonwiz version was ported across.
It's not designed with the Australian market speifically in mind, so there are a few rough edges, and local features missing, but it also comes with a whole lot of extra features too (and is a lot closer to the enigma2 cutting edge).

I run the Beyonwiz firmware on one of my V2s and the OpenATV firmware on my other.

Shame about that default skin making it into the firmware though. Normally any of the incompatible elements from upstream are stripped out so that these problems don't occur.

How do I remove the number 7 from the infobar? There are different numbers on every channel and I don’t want them there.

Bring up the channel list and change the settings:

FAV->MENU->Configuration...->Show numbers in channel list and infobar

Set to disabled :)

FYI. This feature is not new to this beta.

I've already have it disabled could it be from the OverlayHD skin?

Actually it was tested with both OpenATV and OpenViX. Beyonwiz made the choice to go with OpenATV even though this meant significant merge issues could be created.

Prior to the decision to go with OpenATV we (OpenViX and I) had worked very hard for months to ensure that OpenViX would be ready to work on the Beyonwiz V2 hardware. That effort is still available for users who want to run OpenViX on their Beyonwiz V2. To run OpenViX on the Beyonwiz V2 simply use the production Octagon SF8008 firmware. It will recognise and understand the hardware differences and should work fine. I can't give a personal current status report as I no longer have a Beyonwiz V2 but I believe it is still working fine. While I never tested it, I believe that OpenPLi may also be able to work on the Beyonwiz V2.

I also have versions of OpenViX for all the Beyonwiz T series devices but they can't be made available for end user access.

The issue is that Beyonwiz is *so* far behind all the other images. We had to make some hard decisions and move things along to keep Enigma2 alive and improving. (I am now a member of the OpenATV, OpenPLi and OpenViX development teams.) We are all working cooperatively to improve Enigma2 for all. Many of the derivative images, like OpenVision, BlackHole and others, are working with us to keep everything working. Given this new era of cooperation this rate of changes will likely now be increasing. For example, I am currently making changes that will overhaul the whole skin system for all images. I also assisted in the overhaul and rewrite of the hard disk management code that just went into OpenViX and should soon be going into the other images. There are many other improvements in progress or on the planning boards.

Regards,
Ian.

I'm not sure either.... I did see a link for openatv firmware or skins in a previous post, but it just comes up as a blank page. How can I put openatv on my v2?

Strange, domain doesn't work for me now either. They must be having trouble with their forums.

A more direct link is here.

http://images.mynonpublic.com/openatv/6 ... beyonwizv2

Download the latest image and flash from USB using the usual procedure.

Your settings will not carry over to the openatv firmware.

If you need more support with that image it would be best to start a separate thread in the openatv section of this forum.

Hi,

The OpenATV update / feed servers are offline for an massive build update. Hopefully it won't take much longer.

I just checked this. I’m running 19.3 20200328 with OverlayHD & have that option disabled on our U4s, but I still get the channel number displayed in the infobar (which doesn’t concern me).

If it is an OverlayHD compatibility issue (& I don't know if it is), I don’t think IanSav is making any changes to OverlayHD for the standard Beyonwiz f/w, so you may have to put up with the channel number being displayed. Ian will no doubt correct me if I’ve given you the wrong information.

In firmware 20200328, this works with the pre-loaded easy-skin-aus-hd and Full-Metal-Wizard skins. In the OverlayHD 0.81, the setting works for the channel numbers in the channel list, but not for the channel number in the infobar. I'm not sure why.

An alternative to removing the numbers would be to make them reflect the channel's LCNs in the Favourites list. Unfortunately, that can only be done if the favourites list is ordered by increasing LCN (e.g. you can't group all the ABC and SBS channels by broadcaster: 2, 20, 21, ... 24, 3, 30, 31, ... 34). That may be less of a problem if you exclude only the HD simulcast and not the SD of each broadcaster's main channel, but you still need to follow the LCN order within each broadcaster, and you have to keep to the overall broadcasters in the LCN ordering. In essence, you can make Favourites lookk line Terrestrial TV LCN with some entries removed, but you can't change the order of the entries left in the Favourites list.

If your Beyonwiz is networked, you can take screenshots of the Beyonwiz screen in your computer's browser. They are generally sharper than photos.

I think this option may have been added, or the issue noted, after I moved on from Beyonwiz development.

You are correct that OverlayHD is not currently being updated on Beyonwiz firmware. As previously discussed, the Beyonwiz base firmware is very out of date so it would be excessively distracting to revert all the code and skin changes to go back to supporting the Beyonwiz. Support will be restored when, if, Beyonwiz brings itself up to current Enigma2 standards (and maintains them).

Ian.

That would explain it then, Ian. To be honest I didn’t even notice the channel number being displayed in the infobar until Blakej1987 posted about it. As Peter mentioned, the channel number can be removed from the channel list which is how I prefer to have it.

That’s what I understood from some of your posts in other topics. It is a great skin, & so far it is still working fine. :)

Hi Dennis,

There are many more improvements in the newer versions of OverlayHD but they depend on later versions of Enigma2 code. Maybe, one day, Beyonwiz will catch up.

Regards,
Ian.
