BUG: Bad fill on Infobar EPG

Post by MrQuade » Wed Dec 05, 2018 23:51

Ok, I know that the Infobar EPG is probably one of the least used of the EPGs, and this bug might be hard to reproduce, but I thought I should report it anyway.

I found an instance of a bad event-highlight fill while scrolling through the EPG (I was re-jigging things to add the new 7food network).

I was in the middle of reconfiguration and had 22 services in my Favourites bouquet, and the Infobar EPG was configured to display 4 rows. That means I had 6 "pages" of services with the last page containing only 2 rows.
Also, I have configured the EPG to skip empty services, so when I navigate to the HDMI-IN service, the highlight automatically jumps over it.

First screenshot just shows the second last "page".
Press the DOWN button to go to the next page.

Last page showing the last two services with HDMI-IN at the end.
Press the DOWN button to skip over HDMI-IN and wrap around to the first page.

First page shown and the event is highlighted.
Press DOWN,

Note that the highlight has moved to the next service, but the last selected event is partially highlighted.
The gap appears to be about the same size as the gap in the EPG at the start of the timeline.

I am not sure if this is easily reproducible, or even what exact set of steps are required to replicate. If I simply navigated back to the badly highlighted event and then back DOWN again, the problem didn't occur.

It was only the steps that I outlined above that seemed to cause the bad fill.
I am not sure if the skip over the HDMI-IN service was in any way one of the factors, but it seemed like it may be worth mentioning.

For the record, I was in the process of configuring the EPG to display 3 rows per page, so that the 21 services with EPGs would be displayed, with HDMI-IN on its own "page". Since the last page with only the HDMI-IN service gets skipped over, the HDMI-IN service is effectively "hidden" in the EPG which I think is a handy thing.

Hi MrQuade,

I believe that a large number of issues with the EPGs, including cell highlighting issues and navigation speed problems have been recently fixed in OpenViX. If there are any more upstream merges then this should be addressed.

Regards,
Ian.

That's a long-standing issue in the Graphical EPGs, and I'd be surprised if it wasn't the same bug in the Infobar Graphical EPG.

Thanks prl. I hadn't even thought to look for an existing bug since I havent encountered a highlight fill problem since you nailed the really bad ones a couple of years back! I have honestly been going for a couple of years and have *never* encountered a EPG highlight bug till last night, so I was quite suprised.

I have recently stopped using IceTV and was thinking that might also have been contributing, can as the EPG seems to populate a little more haphazardly now. I practically never use the infobar EPG so thought that might also have been an isolating factor.

Perhaps my particular example provides part of a recipe, or a hint at least...

I think the actual bug is that the code draws TWO highlight boxes and only moves one of them. The incorrect box gets purged in the first screen refresh. This and other issues have been fixed in the upstream OpenViX code.

Ian.

Its a long time since I looked at that code, and I was never certain what the cause was, but from memory, my main suspicion was on the low-level region-calculation C++ code.
