New Firmware for all T-Series Models (T2/T3/T4) 31/08/2015

Post by Wiz HQ » Wed Sep 02, 2015 11:27

Update Available for all T-Series Beyonwiz PVRs (T2 / T3 / T4)

**Available via both Online Update and USB Update. Please read important information below before proceeding with either Update**
Note: You only need to do either Online or USB upgrade and not both. If online update fails for any reason you can proceed with the USB update.

Online Update
IMPORTANT: To ensure a successful online update you must first make sure that you are running the previous official public release (beyonwiz-4.4-beyonwizt -20150417) or later. To double check press the Menu button on your T-Series remote and scroll across to Setup and then down to Information and press ‘OK’, then scroll to About and press ‘OK’. If you have the previous Official release the date of the last upgrade should be 17/04/2015 or later. If you have a previous version you are best to apply the USB upgrade for the new version and you will be able to do an online upgrade for future versions, if any doubt about your current version you are best to perform the USB upgrade.

How to Upgrade Online
**Your T-Series must be connected to the Internet**
1) If you get the onscreen Popup message Online Update Available Install Now? Please select Yes and jump to Step 6
2) Make sure your PVR is on and you are viewing Live TV
3) Press the Menu Button on your PVR Remote and scroll across to Setup and press ‘OK’
4) Scroll down to Software Manager and press ‘OK’
5) Scroll to Update Now and press ‘OK’
6) Your PVR will now check for Updates
7) You will get a list of options, choose “Update and ask to reboot” and press ‘OK’
8. Your PVR will now upgrade, please DO NOT power down or operate while this is happening. It may take up to 5 - 10minutes depending on your internet speed, progress will show on the screen.
9) Once it is complete it will notify you to press OK to continue and prompt you to Reboot, please do as it requests.
10) Your PVR is now up to date and ready to use, factory reset is not required.

USB Upgrade
IMPORTANT: Upgrading via USB will reset your T-Series to factory setting once complete. You can backup your settings including Timers, Favourites and Network Configuration, before you attempt the upgrade. Press the Menu button on your PVR remote and scroll across to Setup and press ‘OK’, then scroll down to Software Manager and press ‘OK’ then scroll to Create Back Up and press ‘OK’. When you get the message Execution finished! Press ‘OK’ and you should get a popup stating Backup Done. After you load the new firmware you will get an option to Restore from Backup, selecting this will restore your settings. ** Depending on how old your current firmware is Create Back Up may not be an available option in the list, in this case select Back Up Settings and follow the same steps.

Download the Upgrade files here, please make sure you choose the correct model number:

T3: http://feeds.beyonwiz.org/beyonwiz-4.4- ... 31_usb.zip

I tried the online update as prompted and it failed - ie it constantly just rebooted to the blue beyonwiz logo on a black background.

I ended up doing upgrade from usb, but as the original online upgrade failed, I wasn't able to save my settings so had to restore from the last one (seemed to be in June sometime). I hadn't changed anything since then so it just needed to get IceTV to resend my timers.

Should the online upgrade automatically save settings in case it fails? Maybe a prompt? It's too tempting/easy to just say yes to the online upgrade rather than navigate to the menu to save settings first.

I tried the online update and it failed. The re-boot just stayed on the blue Beyonwiz screen. I then did the update using USB but lost my timers as the last backup was in March. I agree with the above suggestion that the online update should automatically take a backup of settings.

Same for me on my T3. Now trying from USB but this seems so slow compared to previous upgrades.
The front panel says upgrading still after 20 minutes but I'm reluctant to restart just yet.
How long should it take?

An upgrade from USB should complete in less that 20 minutes.

Mine just says "Upgrading . . "

Maybe I'll try again for 30 minutes but never had this before and had to upgrade numerous times with a previous T3 unit while trying to sort out problems with support.

It's a worry!

Hi,

My online update also failed with constant rebooting.

Have tried the upgrade from USB but pressing the front panel up arrow appears not to do anything. The front panel then says Booting... and stayed like that for about 20 minutes. I turned the power off and tried again with the same result.

This is a T3 that was running the 20150417 firmware.

Any ideas on how to get the update to complete? Our P2 isn't working again with its 4th corrupted hard drive, so no way to record the news tonight!

Problem solved, I moved the USB drive to the rear port and the upgrade worked.

Thanks,

Tony

Went straight to USB after reading your observations, so thanks for sharing.

Upgrade took 7 minutes in total, most of which was spent "flashing rootfs".

Came back up ok, restored settings, all good.

Online upgrade failed....just left me with front screen saying "booting" for 30 minutes....

Downloaded the zip file and loaded onto USB as per instructions ....turned on T3 at the back ...told me to press "ok" (not up arrow) ....I did as per instruction .......it has been sitting there for 20 minutes "booting" [I'm using rear USB port as per earlier tip]

Any ideas ...checked USB stick before inserting ...has Beyonwiz as folder in root directory, then a holder called "HDX" which includes 8 files...

One thing to check, as per the upgrade instructions, the T3 must run the latest bootloader, otherwise upgrades will fail.

You have an old bootloader, which means that the current updates will not work until you update the bootloader.

Saw update notice on the T4 today so said yes and all went fine, downloaded everything, rebooted and all is done.

May be imagining things but just feels a bit faster at most things.

Will be keen to see if it still has the issue with chase play ..... Where when it passes to the current time shift buffer it goes to live not start of buffer....will know soon as am almost at that point.

Damn on-line update stuffed up my T4....no picture or sound...but does tell me what "channel" it is on when I change channels.

So factory reset (again)...and if that fails to get things working will try the USB approach.

I have a barebones T3 with the 2015-03-12 bootloader installed. I attempted the online update once, but half-way through the downloading the machine spontaneously rebooted and returned to the program I had been watching. Some minutes later it again offered the update, and I tried it again. This time the downloading was completed. I rebooted, but as with others above, got no further than the initial icon. I twice switched the machine off and then on again after a few minutes, but the rebooting went no further than the initial icon. I then downloaded the upgrade to a USB and the upgrade appeared to go ahead without problem. Once I had re-attached the USB drive I use instead of an internal drive, I was able to restore my previous settings, and all appears to be well.

I used the online update method successfully on my T3.
It was very slow and took about 45 mins despite a fast wired internet connection.
However, it showed the progress on screen throughout so I knew where it was up to. It then rebooted without a problem.
I was upgrading from the 20150417 firmware and had the latest bootloader.
I also started the update manually (after selecting no to the automated screen prompt to update) and after manually backing up.

Cheers,
Yeh, there's a file in the Beyonwiz / hdp path on the USB called 'noforce'. If you rename that to 'force' it will do the update automatically. Had the same problem a few weeks back.

How did you manage the up ^, when plugging the USB into the rear?

I plugged mine into the rear and it still asked me to press the up ^....

For those who know me round here as the "whinger", :) mine prompted me to update, then updated 584 packages of something and worked straight away. It was brilliant and I didn't have any problems.

Thanks to the devs here for their hard work!

Excellent....that worked......however on scanning it is now not finding any services.

This is turning into a nightmare of an upgrade.

I never experienced any of this on the P1 or T3.....

Noticed ....
. my smb settings smb.conf were lost with the update (assume that was part of the updated samba)
. my settings for the file list were also lost - it went back to large font.

Not sure if the chase play problem is still there as we were so close to live when it changed to latest buffer could not tell. Will check again

Same experience and outcome as Lex200 above. 45 minutes download over ADSL2 and then smooth upgrade, reboot and service restart. Happy didn't need the USB but 45 minutes with screen overlays with downloading/installing did not pass the wife test.

FINALLY.

After third install and try out of the latest FW....it eventually scanned successfully for channels.

Gotta say though, worst upgrade ever having had 3 BW units.....

But so far 45 minutes in and things seem to be working fine (so far)

I just installed a fresh out-of-the-box T4 this morning. During setup I was prompted with an online update, which I did. Seemed to go without a hitch.

As I have no knowledge of the factory installed versions, could the OP perhaps post the expected version numbers to see when the update has completed, to be sure all the components were upgraded as expected? My info shows (non-version infos excluded):

Drivers: 2015-08-25
Image: 4.4
Kernel: 3.14.2
Oe-Core: 4.4
Bootloader: Thu Apr 2 03:38:12 AEDT 2015
Front Panel: 20052

Last Upgrade: 2015-08-31 06:52

GStreamer: 1.4.5
Python: 2.7.3

Are all the components correct?

Thanks,
Steve

That's the latest official firmware. There were some additional beta upgrades made available overnight, but unless you're set up to get the beta upgrades, you won't be prompted for them.

Ok, thanks. I think I will get to know the T4 a little better before I dabble with betas though. :)

I seem to be having a similar problem with this upgrade in that it does not appear to be working. I have tried it twice from both the front and back USB ports, checked the name of the folder to ensure all lower case characters and prior to starting the upgrade checked and upgraded the bootloader which is now showing the correct date. However, this firmware upgrade does not appear to be working. When I put in the USB it gives the press up arrow to upgrade which I do (or at least I think I do!) but then it goes directly into 'booting' and appears to boot up as normal without any upgrade.

I have a T3 and after the upgrade it is showing:

Bootloader: Thu Mar 12 23:37:35 AEDT 2015
Front Panel: 20037

Last Upgrade: 2015-04-10 11:00

I am not sure what else to try so any ideas would be welcome!

Cheers

Sounds like a non-functional up button on the front panel. If you check previous posts in this thread you will see that you can just rename noforce to force. This will do the upgrade unconditionally.

The T4 is recognising the update is there since it gives you the up arrow prompt, so that is a good start :)

Are you pressing the up arrow on the front panel (correct), and not the up arrow on the remote control (incorrect)?

When you are fully booted, do the up and down arrows on the front panel do anything? ie. do they work?

You can tell the T4 to force the upgrade without having to press the up key by renaming a file on the USB stick, as per this post:

Last upgrade on wiz is 2014-10-04 16:51

So I have followed the instructions and the usb upgrade did not work.
I have a T3 Wiz. Downloaded the file, unziped the file to root. USB had a folder called Beyonwiz.
Unplugged all other USB devices on wiz as instructed
Turned off wiz using power switch at back
Installed USB to front(have also tried back)
Powered up wiz, turned on switch at back
Display then says
1. Booting
2. Press ok to upgrade( I then pressed ok on the wiz not the remote)
3. Flashing
4. Upgrading

The upgrading seems to hang forever, left it overnight and wiz still says upgrading

Note: the usb upgrade tutorial says in step 6 to press the up arrow on the wiz, I never got this command. Wiz asked me to press ok.

please help

As per the instructions and the repeated warning on the previous page, you have an old version of the bootloader and it needs to be updated first before you can install this new firmware by any method.

I did it as on-line and it took 3/4 hour from start to end of boot up and more important 3 cups of coffee :D Looks OK so far. I'm not sure but there appears to be a slight change in the colour balance. All my shares appear intact and services present and correct. Is there anything to look out for?

Ah, I think the problem was I was using the up arrow on the remote, not the console, so will give that a try. Many thanks.

Open the beyonwiz forlder and the hdx folder on your PC and rename the file "noforce" to "force"

This worked for me, looked bricked for a while!

Have not been running any of the Beta firmware updates, have only been updating when either my T3 or BW email prompts me.

Online update worked, no problems at anytime.

Thanks MrQuade, pressing the correct up arrow on the console sorted it out.

My T3 updated no problem, however, my T2 is stuck updating packages - 566 of them....

Below is from the web interface.

Brand: Beyonwiz
Model: T2
Chipset: bcm7362
Frontprocessor Version: 0
Total Memory: 232600 kB
Free Memory: 111832 kB
Box Uptime: 0:05
Software
System OE: OE-Alliance 2.4
Distro: beyonwiz
Firmware version: 4.4.20150624
Driver date: 20150623
Kernel version: 3.14.2
Gui version: 2015-08-31

I have tried to do the on line update about 3 times. It downloads packages for about an hour, without actually completing, then the system locks up and I have to power off the unit.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Michael
