New Firmware for (T2/T3/T4/U4/V2) 06/11/2019

Post by Wiz HQ » Mon Dec 09, 2019 12:33

New Software Upgrade Now Available - T2 / T3 / T4 / U4 / V2

Important information for T-Series and U-Series owners before upgrading to v19.3
v19.3 is a Major Upgrade and you cannot restore your old settings from previous versions or it will cause problems. After you have upgraded and reboot for the first time you may be asked if you want to restore from backup, you must select “NO”. All your recorded content will be fine, you will just have to go through the setup wizard and rescan your channels and setup your timers again.

V2 owners can update via the Beyonwiz online update if prompted by a popup or perform a USB update and safely restore from backup.

Download the Upgrade files here, please make sure you choose the correct model number:
T2 - https://beyonwiz.com.au/firmware/t2/bey ... 06_usb.zip
T3 - https://beyonwiz.com.au/firmware/t3/bey ... 06_usb.zip
T4 - https://beyonwiz.com.au/firmware/t4/bey ... 06_usb.zip
U4 - https://beyonwiz.com.au/firmware/u4/bey ... 06_usb.zip
V2 - https://beyonwiz.com.au/firmware/v2/bey ... 06_usb.zip

Many fixes and enhancements, release notes will be posted soon re changes. On behalf of myself and the Beyonwiz community, thank you to all the community members who have contributed :D

Here are the hashes of the files if you want to verify the integrity of the downloads:

you will just have to go through the setup wizard and rescan your channels and setup your timers again.

Will it be possible to backup and restore autotimers with this new firmware release? I think it is the file autotimer.xml in etc|enigma2.

You can restore from a settings backup taken using a 17.5-series firmware.
This is just a lazy copy/paste jobbie from the post of the first general release in the 17.5 series firmware - 20180417.
In the topic on the 19.3 series first public beta, peteru posted that one can "restore settings if upgrading from 17.5 series, otherwise configure from scratch".

OK. Thanks for the clarification. Will save me, and probably others, some time and energy.

Is it worthwhile for me to update? At the moment I have beyonwiz 19.3.20190623 (19.3-164-gc406a38) installed. My setup is such that to turn the power on at the same time holding the button down on the V2 means I can't see the TV screen :D Arms not quite long enough....

It sounds like the V2's public feed has not been updated with the packages from this image yet. Is that planned to happen soon?

Had a query on Whirlpool, and looks like netmask could do without the USB update hassle too :)

Normally, the update feed is updated first, and the USB images follow, but I suspect that WizHQ may have had the images for a couple of days up front and posted them before PeterU had a chance to update the feed.

Release notes would be good, for the .... you know ..... release.
E2I player not in the new build, WAF very low and I'll have to revert back to 17.5 .

You only need to hold the button down until the front panel changes to "Updt". There's also no need to use the physical power switch, rebooting is sufficient.

As-per the first post, the release notes will be posted.
They are not that straightforward to compile because of the number of different sources that fixes come from, so that takes time. I am not sure if any of the contributors have raised their hand definitively for that yet.

What's my next move?

I upgraded selecting startup_1and once I realised I hadn't removed the USB stick all appears to be OK. Had to turn on Samba but all seems well. The only real difference I can see is is I now have a picon for world movies :D Of course when I was doing this my 2 cats demanded immediate attention, the door bell rang with a "you must sign for this parcel" and my phone rang... Time for a coffee...

The error most likely came about because your recording HDD was plugged into the USB3 port and you plugged your USB upgrade drive into the USB2 port.

Under those circumstances, your recording drive mounted at boot as /media/usb and your upgrade drive mounted as /media/hdd.

The upgrade drive would normally be formatted as FAT32, and this does not support the file system hard links that are required for timeshift.

Hence the error message.

The system will have created some of the default "recording drive" directories (like timeshift and perhaps movie and backup) on the upgrade drive, too. Having the directories tare won't affect your ability to use the drive for upgrades.

This is an example of why I do not like the fact that the V2 doesn't support a internal HDD or handle more than one USB drive in a way that users might expect it to.

Selecting STARTUP_1 won't do a USB upgrade. You need to use RESTORE FROM USB.

The STARTUP_{1,2,3} are for multiboot on systems that support it. It's possible to set up multiboot for the Beyonwiz firmware, but you can't set it up from the Beyonwiz firmware. My test V2 can boot Beyonwiz firmware and the Beyonwiz versions of OpenATV and OpenViX.

But it's a bit fiddly to set up.

STARTUP_1 boots from the built-in flash. STARTUP_{2,3} boot from firmware on the microSD card.

Spot on that’s exactly the way it’s set up. The Toshiba USB hdd is a usb3 unit so that’s why I plugged it into the usb3 port

Since you are coming from 16.1, then you will need to update using the USB method and you will need to enter all your settings again from scratch. That includes timers. You recordings will be safe though.

There are ways to back up just your timers and not the other settings, but there are a few extra technical steps involved.

What do you use to set your timers, IceTV, AutoTimer definitions, or manual?
For the the latter two, if you wish, I can provide a script that you can run from USB on the T4 via File Commander (Sources / Files) before flashing that'll backup the latter two to that USB drive, and then another script to run after flashing to restore them from that USB drive.

Since you're coming from a 16.1-series firmware, printout your settings to guide you when setting up again.
The majority of the settings are stored in the /etc/enigma2/settings file. The format is not particularly user-friendly, but it should give you an idea of the required setup.
From a web browser, you can open and then print your settings file via -
file://beyonwizt4/Root/etc/enigma2/
ftp://root:none@beyonwizt4/etc/enigma2/
Via Windows File Explorer - \\beyonwizt4\Root\etc\enigma2

The network share settings are in the automounts.xml file. Again, print it out to assist when setting up again.

Whilst we're here, what is your Front Panel firmware version?
In OWIF it's shown on the Box Info display in the '(Frontprocessor Version)' field in the 'Box' section.
Is it 20057?

And if you use IceTV, on My Account>My Recorders on the IceTV Web page, do "Resend all recordings for this device" in the device's Settings entry, then on the PVR do Menu>IceTV>Fetch EPG and update tImers now.

All your IceTV timers should now be set.

And if you use IceTV, on My Account>My Recorders on the IceTV Web page, do "Resend all recordings for this device" in the device's Settings entry, then on the PVR do Menu>IceTV>Fetch EPG and update tImers now.

All your IceTV timers should now be set.

... and if you do use IceTV, ensure you setup your pre/post padding settings before you do the "resend all" :)

As far as I know there is no Android TV version of the Enigma2 streaming applications. Android TV and vanilla Android are quite different ecosystems.

If the TV supports running Plex, or Kodi, you may be able to wangle something to connect those apps to the V2. Kodi can run the VU+ fronetend which connects to the V2 as a "tuner server". Plex can do something similar, but requires you run a Plex server on your network, so its a bit of extra work.

You could try dream Player for Android TV on Google Play. It's targeted at the dreambox PVR, but that runs a similar Web access interface to what the Beyonwiz runs. No guarantees, though.

The GigaBlue app is also targeted at a different PVR (the GigaBlue) that also runs the same Web access interface and runs very well on the Beyonwi PVRs.

Just wanted to mention I did the 17.5->19.3 update via USB around a week ago, followed by a restore of settings. So far so good, no problems noted.

Thanks very much to all concerned with this update, it is very much appreciated.

Here's a list of some user-visible changes since 20190207 (from the git log).

  • IceTV improvements;
  • fix shutdown falsely thinking recording/timeshift was in progress;
  • timeshift works on any file system supporting hard links (NTFS in particular);
  • provide an option to skip the setup wizard's network setup;
  • autoresolution support for UHD modes;
  • movie list can configure AUDIO and SUBTITLE keys;
  • U4: prevent DTS downmix;
  • Samba uses a new user configuration file name (/etc/samba/smb-user.conf)
  • zap timers will work within the movie list;
  • fix a timer sometimes not going to deep standby;
  • IniSHOUTCast: fix ripping on some servers;
  • fix timeshift on a newly formatted drive;
  • fix automatic movie tag generation (incidentally disabled due to tuner tag);
  • fix "Finished timers at end" sorting;
  • new option in the movie list for directories to show a count of directories and movies within them (top-level only, no recursion);
  • logging can be controlled from Setup > System > Log settings;
  • prevent hiding info when the infobar would normally be hidden;
  • "Show EPG for current channel..." has become "Single EPG" (if you had it as default or moved it in the menu, you'll have to do it again with the new name);
  • graphical EPG has a separate history setting for when it's opened;
  • TIMER, MEDIA and EPG keys all work from each other's screens (in those cases where TIMER did already work from EPG, EXIT will now go back to live TV, not EPG; it's possible to use long GREEN to open the timer list and EXIT back to the EPG);
  • virtual keyboard will scroll its line (and where the scroll happens can be set via Settings > GUI Settings > Input scroll position);
  • read a user-defined key map (/etc/enigma2/keymap_user.xml);
  • file names can be recorded as "Name and time";
  • improvements to the console screen (running a script);
  • improvements to using GREEN to add/remove favourite channels;
  • U4: display boot progress on the front panel;
  • movie list can sort by description;
  • fix HDD format getting stuck at 51%.

I've completed the 19.3 update and managed to re-install E2iStream thanks to some help from others.

I've noticed that I can no longer skip any downloaded mp4 files in the new firmware. If I press right arrow it just goes back to the start whereas v17.5 each button press would give 10 seconds, up was 20 sec skip I think. Even fast forward will go back to the start and then play at 2x, 4x whatever.

Anyone else noticed this? Doesn't affect recorded shows they still skip as normal.

I'm not seeing anything like that on my V2 or U4.
Have you tried a number of different mp4s from various sources? It might be that the ones you are using have messed up indexes.

What about mkv files?

It's a T2.
I think the non-skipping is when playing content downloaded via the e2iStream plugin (not streamed, which is its other option).

It would probably make sense that files from a streamed source might lack that index.
Might need to run a remuxer over the files.

Hi

Yes it's a T2.

Probably going OT for a firmware thread but It's not all mp4s that are affected, some other content from my NAS skips fine. However I've tried older (downloaded via the T2) mp4s that previously have been watched and they would skip, now they will not skip and they start playing from the beginning with the new firmware. All files that I've tried exhibit the same behaviour, series, movies, etc.

I don't have options to download mkv file types, it's just whatever file is available, however mkv from my NAS is fine. Grumpy knows I use gowatchseries.io and there are mirrors for files, but it will be the same file because it's a mirror yeah? E.g Live PD: Police Patrol S4 E41 has 1 working mirror, 3 different res. All will not skip 10 seconds etc they just jump back to the start. I just tried streaming and it will skip fine. Drogging the files from my T2 onto my laptop they will play, but I don't have any 'skip 10 seconds' button on my laptop like the Beyonwiz remote.

Just wondering if the media player version has changed in the latest firmware? Or I'm missing a plugin of some type that may have been on my box under the previous V17.5?

I stick by my earlier guess that any file sourced from that service will have a messed up index. It does seem that whatever changed in there media player in this upgrade had made it less tolerant of malformed files.

As for repairing the files, you might try with something simple like this method using vlc.
https://www.stellarinfo.com/blog/repair ... ia-player/

There is probably a good way of doing it from the T2 command line using ffmpeg too.

Ha! Yep, I showed Zodie how to install E2iStream via a single line script run from USB (from https://www.softrix.co.uk/istream/).

I also installed the plugin, but haven't used it very much. I've streamed the first episode of Race Across The World as I'd missed the series start. I noticed there was no trick play available.
I started to watch a movie, Rambo: Last Blood. It buffered about 5MB then started playing using the plugin's player. I could only skip backwards. This makes sense to me since I was watching a stream, not file playback.
I used the plugin to download a couple of episodes, but they can't be trick-played using either the internal (system, eServiceMP3/MoviePlayer) nor external (gstplayer/IPTVExtMoviePlayer) players.
Those downloaded .mp4 files can be seeked when played with PotPlayer on the PC however.

I chucked one of the downloads through an old MP4 remuxer I had and the resultant file was able to trick play fine.

I also tried ffmpeg on the U4 - ffmpeg -i {video.mp4} -acodec copy -vcodec copy {newvideo.mp4} - and again the resultant file was able to trick play fine.

I then fired up the E2iStream plugin and had it play that ffmpeg'ed output using its own player and I could skip forward and backward. I think that points the finger at the streams/source.

Zodie,
If you ask adoxa nicely, he may be able to find the time to knock up a plugin (that'd be available from MENU popup in the media selection list) that'll run ffmpeg over the downloaded file and produce a new seekable one.

Interesting thread. I have hundreds of mp4s, many (maybe 5-10%) which do not skip on the U4 or T4 but are fine on the PC.

I have re-encoded a few with Handbrake to overcome the problem but finding a way to more efficiently repair them would be great.

Try the ffmpeg command on one of the naughty ones then -
ffmpeg -hide_banner -i {input.mp4} -acodec copy -vcodec copy {output.mp4}

You can install ffmpeg via File Commander's MENU>>"7. Install 'ffprobe' and enable this operation" option, as ffmpeg comes along with it.
If it already shows as "7. Run 'ffprobe' command" then you already have ffmpeg.
It doesn't take too long for ffmpeg to run on a 45-60 min episode (say, < 1min).

Works for the minimal testing I did (mp4->mp4). I set the output to be in a different directory. The resultant file was seekable (the original wasn't).

Hey Grumpy, try playing a downloaded mp4 with the V17.5 media player, it will skip fine. I proved that because I had to temporarily revert to 17.5 and the files skipped fine. Points to the default player in the new firmware, as the player in the old firmware plays and skips files fine.

Thanks to adoxa :) plugin installed and I've tested playing a re-processed file and it skips fine. Any way to manually install the v17.5 inbuilt player that did handle these files and skipped fine?

Just to confirm the new process so I can explain to MRS:
1. Highlight file, press Menu
2. Choose ffremux
3. Choose mp4
4. wait some time period, there's no GUI feeedback so maybe it works, or maybe you get "Error -1" error if you are watching the screen.
5. Delete file with oldest date/time
6. resume normal operations and press 'ok' on file with newest date/time to play it. Skip if needed.

Not as smooth as v17.5 that's for sure.

No, you can't install the old version in the latest firmware.

It's possible that this behaviour was an oversight by the developers (developed pride of Beyonwiz control) in the new version and that a later revision has fixed this. It's also possible that the ability to cope with badly indexed videos is just an option that needs to be ticked before compiling, or a component that needs to be added.

It might also be something that was done to deliberately cater for the V2 and it's various unique playback quirks.

I'll add it to the issue tracker and see if PeterU can identify the cause.

In the meantime, we now have a great new tool for easily muxing recordings into new container formats which is pretty exciting :)

4. wait some time period, there's no GUI feeedback so maybe it works, or maybe you get "Error -1" error if you are watching the screen.
Exit the movie list back to live TV and press BLUE to see progress at that point, select it to watch it update. If you got an error please report what you find in the log: live TV > MENU > Sources / Files > 5 > /home/root > logs > ffremux.log (or just copy and post \\beyonwizt2\logs\ffremux.log).

Hey Grumpy, try playing a downloaded mp4 with the V17.5 media player, it will skip fine. I proved that because I had to temporarily revert to 17.5 and the files skipped fine. Points to the default player in the new firmware, as the player in the old firmware plays and skips files fine.

Except that the E2iStream plugin's own player wouldn't skip the mp4s it downloaded.
So perhaps the later firmware has a common library that isn't playing nice.
