T2 Keeps prompting to install firmware update

I rarely use my T2 so noticed this week a firmware upgrade was available. It advised the update was large and recommended doing the USB method. I proceeded with OTA, a couple of time now and it keeps nagging me to upgrade.

Just confirming if I save my backup and do USB update (which wipes the settings right?) I can then restore with my back up settings?

I use Ice TV and HD Home Tuner (I think) so I can leverage the tuners via Plex.

Some people overseas are watching NRL via this method so I need to plan if there is going to be a major outage

It depends on what version you're updating from. If from any 16.1 series firmware (including the last official release) or from some early 17.5 series firmware, you need to re-do setup manually.

I did a full rebuild within the last 6 months. It will be in these forums somewhere I'll dig around and see if I can confirm what version I was on. The screenshot of my current firmware as 17.5, unless the two OTA upgrades have incremented the version number?

If i need to do a full manual install again, doesn't worry me but I need to plan the outage.

The upgrade certainly looks a bit messed up - the Build (2180417 in your case ) should not me more recent than the Revision (you have 20180129).

You definitely need to do a USB upgrade. I think you should be able to restore your settings from backup.

My T4 is still on 16.1. It's my main PVR. Would it be advisable to wait for final 17.5 or would upgrade (USB and manual setup) be your course of action?

"Final 17.5"? I'm not sure what that would be.

I recommend that you update the T4 to the current 17.5 firmware version 20180417, which is supposed to be the next official release, but it actually being made so seems to be taking far too long.

You will need to re-do your setup on the T4, so allow time for you to be able to do that. After it is updated to 20180417 it will no longer "see" settings backup made with 16.1 firmware versions. It's still possible to restore such a backup if you know how, but it would be a bad idea.

Better not to restore but it's a "suck it and see". You can restore settings and if it all works then great. If not, redo the USB update and don't restore settings.

If you have done a full re-configure of your settings in a 17.5 firmware (and the current beta in Sept 2017 would have been 17.5), you probably don't need to re-do the settings and you can use a backup of your current settings.

One of your other posts in that topic states your T2 was on 20171204 as of 5-Feb.

I'll be rebuilding my T4 from scratch as that's still on 16.x, any advice on whether i need to back up and USB upgrade T2 and restore or just leave as it is would be appreciated.

AFAIK the release and the beta are identical so you will be fine.

AFAIK the release and the beta are identical so you will be fine.

The copy of the T2 installer for 20180417 that I downloaded on 17 Apr when it was still technically in beta is byte-for-byte identical with the one I just downloaded from the official 20180417 release page.
