firmware for U4

Post by KGL » Sat Jan 20, 2018 17:05

Hi

I am new to BW and enjoying getting to know the machine. After setup, I got a message to update the firmware which I did by download. Now, a few days later I am getting a prompt to get a larger update with the suggestion to download and install by USB. Trouble is I can't find the update on the website! It doesn't appear to be under downloads.
Where do I find it?
Thanks
Greg

Those updates aren't available as USB updates yet. You need to do the updates online, even though they're larger than usual for online updates.

It's not yet there. Don't worry, you can still do the online update on the U4 without issue as it's got enough memory to action it.
The warning appears due to there being more than 100 packages to update.

I wish they would hurry up, I got my new U4 today and I can hear the current program but not see anything. So I thought I'll just download the firmware from the web site and reinstall and all would be good. But apparently not. Not a great start for me :( So back to the old faithful T2 until this gets sorted out....

I doubt that this is a firmware problem.

Did you get normal video in the initial setup screens when you first setup the U4?

Could I please get clarification on what firmware I should be on by now? I have had 2 notifications to download and upgrade the firmware since receiving the machine but none since. The machine is set to check every hour ( I have not changed this) and I have done periodic manual checks but with nothing to upgrade.
Current firmware is: beyonwiz 17.5.20180202 (17.5-245-g46b3f55)

I don't really want to get into beta testing but if issues have been sorted out, I would like to update the firmware.

Thanks

Hi Greg

With a 17.5 series firmware you are using a beta series firmware already though most of us would agree it is fairly stable safe to use.

There have been a few releases since the one you are using but you won't get notification unless you run the script to us the beta feed. (Or you can just use the USB updates without changing the feed and manually update.)

The choice is yours.

The U4 section of the Beyonwiz "Downloads" page has a link to the 20180228 firmware.
That link in Downloads is identical to the one listed for the U4 in the 20180228 beta topic.
So, in this case it's just a label.

Yes, the U4-owning punters need something downloadable to whack on their units, and Beyonwiz has chosen 20180228. Previously Beyonwiz had 20171230 listed, but they really had no choice but to replace it with 20180228, as the package manager update of 26-Feb added in the SDK bloat and only USB loading of 20180228 (or later) would skip that.

I'm running 20180315, FWIW. It's a brew definitely ready and worthy of bottling. I recommend you USB load 20180309 and let it update via the beta feed stream.

Hi guys, I decided to upgrade to this firmware and followed all the steps in the upgrade instructions as far as I can tell to step number 8. Instead of loading a backup, I decided to do a fresh install and everything seems to be okay except I can't find my previous recordings. In fact, the Movie directory doesn't exist. I can see a Movie bookmark but clicking that says it doesn't exist! When I click on the Movie folder from my PC, it says it doesn't exist. I haven't reloaded the IceTV timers yet as I don't know where it will put the recordings.

How do I recreate the Movie folder?

At one stage during my new U4 upgrade saga, I lost sight of all my movies. Yet the header at the top said there were some 50 odd files there.
Using the file commander i could see that the files were there.
I bit the bullet and went to default and configured again from scratch, they turned up.
Very messy.

What do you see when you press the MEDIA button?
What files/folders are listed in the left-hand pane?
What directory path is shown at the right-hand end of the top line (the left has the date/time)?

Further to my previous post, I tried to create a new Movie folder - media/hdd/Movie and I get an error message - errno5 something.
So, I have found media/hdd but no lower level folders. The media/Trash folder has nothing in it either.

When the path top right corner has media/hdd/, the summary says 0 directories and 0 files.

There should be a leading "/" too (/media/hdd/).
What shows if you navigate using File Commander (MENU>>Sources / Files) from live TV, then "U4 (internal HDD)"?
Is .Trash and movie then shown? Can you select and enter movie and see your recordings?

Have you tried a shutdown, rear switch off, wait 10-secs, rear switch back on?

I am not really familiar with the file commander but I this is what I see:
U4 Internal Drive (click then...) ,list of storage devices> on the left and on the right U4 (Internal hdd), Internal Flash, and DLNA. I can't go anyway from here except back.

That's what it seemed to be for me, too.

BTW: the default recording directory is /media/hdd/movie, not media/hdd/Movie. Both the leading slash and case are significant.

Just did a USB upgrade to beyonwiz 17.5.20180228 on my U4, and when I go to the Menu, I have no option there for Autotimers.

Is there something else I needed to do to this USB update on the U4 ?

Yes, that was a bug with the settings in the shipping firmware.

Firstly, you should install the latest firmware from here.

Then you need to set up from scratch and not restore your previous settings, or else you will loose the Autotimers menu entry again.

The firmware from 20180216 and onwards should have the fix as per PeterU's post here, however, you still must not restore settings from a previous version that was lacking the autotimer entries.

Funny part was that I did do a upgrade via USB when I first got it, and installed without a back up.... or so I thought.

Anyway, I'll do as you said a little bit later today. Thanks.

I have a problem since upgrading the firmware that post padding settings are not working on my U4. Before the upgrade they were working fine.

The problem is now the post padding only lasts for 5 minutes despite the fact that in the settings I have it set at 25 minutes. I have already had the situation where the recording has stopped before the end of the broadcast due to the usual network delays.

Please fix. I now have to manually edit each timer to add enough time to make sure it records the whole episode etc.

Padding is set for each timer when the timer is created. The padding used at that time is the pre/post padding values as specified in the settings.
If you later change the those values in the settings, the system does not update the padding in the existing timers. You either need to modify each one, or delete and recreate each timer.

Are you using IceTV? If so, did you re-fetch all timers before you updated the padding settings? In your IceTV account you can iniate a resend again for all recordings, and this should update all of the timers.
