Post by Wiz HQ » Mon Aug 22, 2016 14:22

New Software Upgrade Now Available - T2 / T3 / T4

**Download and install the USB update for your model number below, if your Beyonwiz T-series is connected to the internet this same update that was made available late last week. Online update rely on a good and consistent internet connection, if you process an online update and it fails for any reason please re-install the update via the USB method below**

USB Upgrade
IMPORTANT: Upgrading via USB will reset your T-Series to factory setting once complete. You can backup your settings including Timers, Favourites and Network Configuration, before you attempt the upgrade. Press the Menu button on your PVR remote and scroll across to Setup and press ‘OK’, then scroll down to Software Manager and press ‘OK’ then scroll to Create Back Up and press ‘OK’. When you get the message Execution finished! Press ‘OK’ and you should get a popup stating Backup Done. After you load the new firmware you will get an option to Restore from Backup, selecting this will restore your settings. ** Depending on how old your current firmware is Create Back Up may not be an available option in the list, in this case select Back Up Settings and follow the same steps.

Download the Upgrade files here, please make sure you choose the correct model number:

Is this Firmware update the same as the online update a couple of weekends ago, or is it separate?

I thought this was going to be beyonwiz-4.4-beyonwizt2-20160729_usb, as per http://beyonwiz.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=10559, but it's the same as the current beta: beyonwiz-4.4-beyonwizt2-20160817_usb.

I updated to the 29/07/2016 f/w a few weeks ago but have now updated to the official 17/08/2016. Now the T4 is telling me there is an online update available. Is this online update actually the 29/07/2016 f/w as there was no update notification while on the 29/07 f/w?

The online firmware updates will just take you to the latest available version. There is no separate update stream for the 17/8/2016 vs 20/7/2016, as they are just snapshots in time of the same firmware series.

Just apply online updates as they appear, and you don't have to worry about versions. I do note from an earlier post of yours that you prefer USB updates, but there is really no reason to avoid online updates. The result is exactly the same.

An online update should never take you back to an earlier version. You can go back to an earlier version using a USB "update" to completely replace the firmware with the older version.

Thanks MrQuade and Peter, but what is the online update exactly? It is offering me 550 updated packages and I can't tell from that.

There was no update notification when I had the 29/07 f/w installed, since a few weeks, but I am getting the update notification now since I installed the official current 17/08 earlier today. I though that if you had the current official f/w installed you shouldn't ever be offered anything other than a newer official release, unless you've configured for the beta updates, which I haven't?

That doesn't sound like you're actually running 2016-08-17. There are no official updates to 2016-08-17 available, and while there is an online update to 2016-08-18 on the beta feed, it's only 3 packages.

As-per prl's advice. It sounds like you may have accidentally extracted an older version of firmware onto your USB stick prior to installing.

Yes, this was it. But...
Check your current version via MENU->Information->About
I had accidentally installed the 31/08/2015 f/w. When I *did* "confirm" the update version earlier today, the date displayed next to Last Upgrade was 2015-08-31. Which is exactly one year ago (or yesterday, when I did it). The old brain did not register the year and, well, I did do the "Last Upgrade" on 31/08.

Anyhoo, I really *do* have the 2016-08-17 update installed now and am happy to report that there are no online updates showing.

Apologies to all.

Steve

Just as a bit of feedback, I had issues when trying to do an online update to this version.

I don't have it set to check updates automatically so only noticed there was an update recently. Having selected the update and gone through the process, rebooted etc it still had a July date when I checked info. I ran a check for updates again and it said there was one so I tried to install that. It then said 0 packages updated, even though it showed a number before I selected yes to update. So I then downloaded from the web to a USB and did the update from there. It all went as sweet as a nut, so don't know what the issue was with the online update? I had the same online update problem with both my Barebones T3 and T4, but fine using USB.

A specific date might have allowed some investigation into the reason why the online upgrade didn't work.

Yes, sorry about that Peter, I just wanted to get the things updated and didn't think what might have been useful in the debugging.

I can't think I was the only one to have had issues, so there may be others out there who can shed some light on it.

Tried to update beyonwiz T2 in the hope it would fix the bugs but alas even more bugs. It froze at the restore settings screen.
Didn't really want to vent but My old dplite was a fantastic machine with seemingly no bugs I only bought the T2 based on the DPlite but now wished like hell I hadn’t. It has been nothing but bugs and more bugs. It seems frozen more often than it works. The new cheap remote already has the paint off the buttons and requires a power off restart of the machine every couple of weeks to get it to work. Old remote, no issues. This is not my definition of successful development.
I will try the update process again in desperate hope unless anyone has any better ideas

It would be helpful if you could start a thread to ask about the specific bugs that you were encountering in more detail to see if anyone can help.

Where exactly? Were you able to move the highlight cursor, or did it freeze when you chose to restore settings with the OK button?

Hang in there. The T2 is generally a nice and reliable little machine. Someone should be able to help you with whatever specific issues you are having.

Hi Coops, welcome to the forum.

It sounds like the batteries in the remote may be a bit low (needing to reboot because the remote stops working). The T2 and T4 remotes are known to do odd things when their batteries are low.

But as MrQuade says, if you want help on specific problems, you need to be specific about what they are. If you just want to vent, that's OK, but it is unlikely to help with the actual problems.

You may find this useful as a guide to what we mean: How to create good bug reports.

Was / Is there an issue with the 2016-07-29 11:58 release in relation to online updates ? I'd just  noticed references to an August release that I did not recall installing. I performed an online "check for updates now", it loaded a packages.gz and then popped up a "Nothing to upgrade" message. I have no issues doing a usb upgrade, but it seems odd. Online upgrades have worked fine previously.

I have used the beta stream in the past in case that may be related.

TIA Alan.

I'll hold off doing the USB upgrade (since I have no operational issues) for a couple of days, incase anyone wants me to try and track the root of the issue.

Hi Alan

There is no problem with online updates but it is unlikely there will be any or many as there is a new firmware being developed that has only just moved from alpha to beta versions.

But you will also find there won't be a difference between this version and the one you already have as there were no changes to the beta version you installed before it became this release version.

Thanks for quick response.

I thought that I had installed the formal release from USB which I expected to have switched me out of the beta stream. If I read your response correctly, then you are advising me that the timestamp that I am reporting is that of a beta code preceding the August release and contains no different elements than the August release... hence the "Nothing to upgrade" message (and that my belief that I had installed from USB might just be a bit faulty....) :o

So an install from USB will timestamp the system consistently.

Hoping someone can help, running latest firmware on a T3, in the last 24 hours most times I skipped forward through some pre recorded shows the machine would reboot constantly...... tried reflashing the firmware with no result.... other than stuck in a constant loop of reboot..... now only shows "BEYONWIZ-T3" on the boot screen.... doesn't do anything when I try and reflash, but boot loader on USB stick to see if it would do anything no change :(

Also, I took my T4 from the lounge to the bedroom (were T3 lives) but tuners where showing all scattered blocky channels ?!? Tried doing several re scans but missing most channels (TV tuner works fine and works fine in lounge room) any ideas ???

Your T3's power supply has given up and will need to be repaired. See this thread for more information.
