Realtek RTL8192EU wifi dongle driver for T3

Post by cmljg » Tue Apr 21, 2015 19:29

Hello all,
I just bought my T3 and managed to get a wifi dongle Realtek RTL8192EU separately.
When I connected the Wifi dongle to the T3, nothing happened, I tried all the Realtek plug-in drivers in the driver download area, with no luck.
With the wifi dongle, I received a CD containing the driver for windows and the driver source codes (in a tar file) for Linux that needs to be compiled. I don't really know what to do with it or how to do this. Is there anyone who is kind enough to help me compile the Linux driver for this Wifi dongle?
It'll be much appreciated. Please let me know how I can pass on the source codes, the zip file size is about 9.5M bytes

cmljg, I'm in a similar situation. Moved Beyonwiz T3 from a room with an Ethernet connection into a spare room that doesn't have a connection and now looking at using a WiFi USB dongle. Search eBay for a suitable option and see one available needing a 8192EU driver. How did you get on, were you able to find one and now using it? Appreciate any advice.
Cheers for now.

Guys,

The second of the above two posts is possibly your best bet.

I have a no name that probably uses the earlier 8192 C chipset. It works ok - just plug it in then go to the setup menu and enable it. I found it best to disable the ethernet adapter when it asks about the second adapter.

When you do set up the hardware, you should be aware that the software seems finicky about the correct password setup, esp. the encryption options. Carefully try ALL the options if it doesn't work first-time.

Thanks Paul for your input. I went thru my box of bits and pieces and found a USB dongle with a RTL8811au chip. First off the Beyonwiz failed to recognise this dongle and after reconnecting the box via a long Ethernet cable, able to download the 8812 drivers. The 8811 dongle can now be seen by the Beyonwiz, but a network connection problem has arisen and will require some work to sort out tomorrow.

Thanks again.
Cheers for now.

All sorted :D Had a conflict with WPA - WPA2 settings.

Not the fastest dongle in the west, may look at upgrading down the track. Any suggestions welcomed.
Cheers for now.

Do you have a need for speed?
You previously connected via ethernet, so that was limited by the T3's 100 Mbps ethernet port.
If you were happy with previous ethernet speed, then you could look at powerline adapters.

For Wi-Fi access, do you have a wireless-AC router/access point?
If so, you could get an 8812-based dongle. The 8812 dongle should be 2-stream; 300 Mbps ('N') and 867 Mbps ('AC'). Even if you don't have AC, it should still be faster than the 150 Mbps/433 Mbps (N/AC) of the 8811 dongle you have.
If not, you could get an 8192-based dongle 300 Mbps ('N').
The Wi-Fi speed throughput will be likely be limited by USB 2.0 max speed of 480 Mbps, and I believe the half-duplex nature of Wi-Fi.

Also the T3's processor is substantially less powerful than the T4's and also the T2's for that matter.

The T3 can saturate a 100MB Ethernet, but only just!. A T4 can run it's 1GB Ethernet up to about 30 to 40% (i.e. 3 to 4 times faster than a T3). Don't expect dramatically more with alternate technology.

For quick, reliable bulk transfers, the eSATA port is the winner.

In terms of WiFi, 802.11n is a fairly good technology match. You can try for 802.11ac, but the main benefit there is to get onto the 5GHz band, rather than the instantaneous throughput.

Thanks Geoff, Ian and Peter for your inputs. Need to catch up with all the info on USB WiFi dongles. Mainly will be using the Beyonwiz to record movies etc., then transfer them to a PC to edit and store them on a external HDD. So speed is not essential, just want a reliable WiFi connection.
Cheers for now.
