Can't mount NAS
Can't mount NAS
All my Beyonwizs have had two NASs mounted to them for years, including a Synology DS918+ with 26.1TB of storage. I recently got a Synology DS418 with 41.8TB of storage. It mounted okay on the V2 but with the U2, T4 and T2s while they could see the NAS when I tried to mount it they would have a little red circle and cross next to the Earth. So I bought another V2 and I was able to mount the new NAS but it won't mount the old Synology NAS giving me the same red circle and cross. I can't understand why one Beyonwiz will mount everything and the others miss one or the other Synology.
Help please!

Re: Can't mount NAS
AtS
I've had similar problems with Qnap & Synology NAS boxes with my U4 & V2.
Can't explain why, but the following steps work for me:
1/ Delete a mount that is not working.
2/ Reboot
(Repeat 1 & 2 as necessary)
3/ Use Network Browser to find the NAS, don't use the Add mount point under the Manage option.
4/ Enter user and password
5/ Expand the NAS (press OK)
6/ Select the share wanted and then mount
7/ Reboot
(repeat steps 3 thru 7 as necessary)
In summary, work with one device at a time. Reboot early, reboot often!

Re: Can't mount NAS
What firmware are you running on all of these?
You'd be best off updating to the very latest beta USB image to take advantage of the latest network updates.

Beyonwiz T2/3/U4/V2, DP-S1 PVRs
Denon AVR-X3400h, LG OLED65C7T TV

Re: Can't mount NAS
In addition to the advice already provided, ensure that you've got NTLMv1 authenticated on your NAS boxes if they're running the latest software (DSM 7.0).

Re: Can't mount NAS
I've installed the latest beta on the new V2, no change.
I've deleted, rebooted, reinstalled in different orders for hours, no change.
I've updated the DSM on both Synologys, where do I find "NTLMv1"?
Thanks for the replies.

Re: Can't mount NAS
The reson the old Wiz units cant connect to the new NAS might be because the new NAS demands a connection from a secure SMB client.
The newest firmware will automatically try to connect using the highest version of SMB it supports, which should be V2.1 or better. (The T3 doesn't support those unfortunately).
Updating all the T and U series units should allow them to connect to the new NAS.
If you want to try something a little less intrusive, you can just add a new option to the mount definition on the T and U series boxes
vers=2.1
This will force them touse SMB version 2.1 to establish a secure connection to the new NAS.
As to why the old NAS is refusing a connection from the new V2. Maybe the newer firmware again.
You could make sure the old NAS is set up to allow later SMB version connections, or you could add the following option to your mount definitions
vers=1.0

Re: Can't mount NAS
I'll second that. The only references I can find are in the DSM Help but refer to the setting within Firefox and Linux. I certainly didn't do anything in the Synology boxes past initial setup. Qnap is in the cupboard.
AtS: Maybe try a factory reset on the BWs (no restore settings) re-setup and add 1 NAS box, reboot and add the second?
Also: As MrQuade points out: SMB. Check the settings in DSM Control Panel/File Services/SMB/Advanced Settings, and those in the BW, just in case there is a mis-match. I haven't changed mine in the Synologys (both are Min 2, Max 3) and I didn't add the vers=1.0 in my BWs.
(Edit - clarity)

Re: Can't mount NAS
How did I miss that???
Anyway, it's not set here.
- I gather the very latest beta firm has had work done in the mount area. Fingers crossed!

Re: Can't mount NAS
For his env; I was pointing out that my env works with it NOT being ticked.
My comment was referring to the BW networking being close to a black art... my V2 still has a reference to a NAS box that was disconnected from the network and otherwise deleted from the BW several weeks (and firmwares) ago, but when you go to select alternate media devices via the yellow button, there it still is. My U4 on the other hand, does not...
Re: Can't mount NAS
Do you mean "other location" from the media player, out something else? You may have created a manual bookmark that still needs to be deleted.

Re: Can't mount NAS
Sorry, meant Media button, Location (Yellow button), then, in the "Choose Media Path" popup is the old Qnap NAS.
Didn't deliberately create a bookmark - don't know how - and can't see how to manage them from within the BW interface. Settings/Bookmarks from OpenWebif has no entries. FTR: I rarely use Openwebif.
Back in the BW interface there is Menu then Sources/Files where it does appear and offers the Red button (and after another Menu button press) to delete, but neither deletes.
Re: Can't mount NAS
If you press MEDIA while in the Media Player screen, the bookmark manager will open.

Re: Can't mount NAS
Thanks for all the replies.
I'm getting nowhere fast.
I've been concentrating on the new V2 as won't mount the NAS that works on all the other BWs.
I have flashed it with different firmware multiple times.
I have reset, rebooted, remounted, deleted, rebooted, remounted, rebooted, deleted, reset, remounted, etc.
Despite the order or number of time I try it will not mount that NAS, it will mount everything else.
I've updated the NASs and made the suggested change, still doesn't work.
I've tried changing the IP of the V2 and the NAS, still doesn't work.
I even replaced the old V2 which works perfectly with the new one and gave it the same IP, but, still doesn't work.
It does not make any sense.
Are there any other suggestions please, because I have a brand new V2 the is useless to me?

Re: Can't mount NAS
- Flash firmware 19.3 20210826 or later from USB.
- Do not restore settings from backup.
- Set up the NAS mount and leave the SMB protocol version field at Default.
- Test.
- If it does not work, change the SMB protocol version field to 2.1 and reboot.
- Test again.
Re: Can't mount NAS
Thanks peteru
Unfortunately it didn't work.
Any other ideas?

Re: Can't mount NAS
I continued to play around with the settings
and SMB default and 2.1 didn't work,
but 1.0 did work
Thanks peteru for pointing in the right direction.

Re: Can't mount NAS
Your NAS must be ancient or misconfigured if it only supports SMB1.
But, at least it works for you now.

Re: Can't mount NAS
I looked at the NASs and the one that worked had a max SMB of 3
but the one that gave me the problem had a max SMB of 2.
So I changed it.
Thanks again, I'm learning a lot.
