I was just offered the update on our T4, but I haven’t installed it yet (watching stuff).

Just got the picon update through adoxa's feed. Thanks to both of you.

How can you tell which feed it came through?

Version number?

I've installed the update now. It definitely came from the standard feeds - I don't have adoxa's feed configured.

So since my update failed via the feed, is there a USB version as the update failure message states? :D

No.

What was the error?

Did you try rebooting?

I did reboot.

I can't remember the error. It just stated, There was an error doing the update. Use the USB update method.

I ran adoxa's script/program to use his feed so I presume it came from his feed.

I ran the update on the T4, which produced the message that there were errors and USB update suggested. I take it from other posts that is because not all the feeds remain active.

Rescanned and even without a reboot I can see the new picons for gecko and Nickelodeon.

Seems to be fine as is - thanks to the two Peters as always.

I saw Nickelodeon but didn't realise that the update was for this. I don't have Gecko. (Don't know what that is)

I noticed 7 Mate HD was updated, don't know if this was recent.

Thank you, peteru. I initiated a manual software update on our V2 this morning. The screen seemed to freeze on fetching update packages... or I didn't wait long enough for a response... then I remembered that when the registration of the beyonwiz.org domain lapsed and was snapped up by a squatter, I turned off automatic software updates but was sidetracked before doing your recommended file change that you posted over in the "Beyonwiz feed servers inaccessible" thread:
peteru wrote:

The simplest way to protect yourself would be to add the following to /etc/hosts on each of your Beyonwiz machines.

Code: Select all

127.0.0.2	beyonwiz.org feeds.beyonwiz.org beta.beyonwiz.org
That should redirect connection requests to go to the local machine, which should immediately respond with an error.

I turned the power switch at the back of the V2 off then, after a few seconds, I turned it back on. After the V2 rebooted, I applied the change to the /etc/hosts file, rebooted the V2, initiated a manual software update and had the picon updates installed in no time.

Thank you again, peteru and prl.

The standard picons-feed is preconfigured in firmware 19.3 20211010

Code: Select all

src/gz beyonwiz-picons https://peteru.net/picons/beyonwiz/19.3
As long as you are running the above version of the firmware you should not have to do anything to enable this feed.

You're not meant run it. That's the location your Beyonwiz unit will find the updates.

Which software version do you have installed? Go to Menu > Information > About. Do you see Release: 19.3? That's the latest version.

If you need it, the latest firmware can be downloaded using the Alternative locations in peteru's first post in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=45&t=14964

Make sure you have the /etc/host file change applied, as per my previous post above.

I just ran the online picon update for my T4 which went fine. I happened to notice on the Favourites page that 7flix and 10 BOLD did not have the usual current on-air programme name displayed nor was the programme progress bar displayed. I did a full rescan and replaced those entries with the newly scanned entries which now display fine with programme name/progress bar.

Perhaps IDs have changed somewhere in time, so I have attached the current full scan for Sydney for reference.

I notice this behaviour from time to time when the TV stations make a change to the way they broadcast their channels. When this happens I do exactly what you did - I rescan and update my favourites. Most recently, it happened here (northern Tasmania) when GEM went from SD to HD late July.

I have 19.3 and ran look for updates and nothing to upgrade because it has already run and as mentioned earlier got an error and it stated to run the update from a USB so that's what I'm looking for.

I can't access the Etc\hosts file from my PC and I can't find the the change mentioned on this page. The channel picons are correct but I prefer not to have underlying errors.

The easiest way to access the file is to connect to your Beyonwiz PVR via FTP. Are you able to do that?

Tried FTP and can't remember how to connect as it goes straight to OpenWebIf.

127.0.0.2 beyonwiz.org feeds.beyonwiz.org beta.beyonwiz.org
Ahh yes I got that now. Forgot for a second it is just a host file entry.

If there are no obvious issues, I suggest that you stop fretting about that long gone warning and leave things alone.

You are more likely to break something if you go around messing with things.

Yes, that can happen if the broadcaster has changed the broadcast format of the channel (e.g. from MPEG2 to MPEG4 or from MPEG4 SD to MPEG4 HD). The service refs stored in your favourites are left unchanged by a scan, and they need to be deleted and reinstated with the correct servicerefs, even if they worked without problems before the scans.

The picon selection mechanism is more robust to those changes, and the channels shoukd have still showed their correct picons. If they didn't, please let me know and I'll investigate in more detail.

Yes, probably the changes in the servicerefs that I mentioned. I'll grab a copy of your Sydney scan data (thanks!) but I probably won't do a new picon distribution unless I see changes that might affect the picons.

I don't have the same and the why might be due to old scan data (slipping past prl's autocorrect; it seems you last provided it in July 2021, which doesn't even have 9Life).

First page. If you're on Windows (10 or later), copy this to a batch file (e.g. scan.bat) and run it, which will give you Gippsland.tar.gz.

Code: Select all

@echo off
set REGION=Gippsland
md %REGION% 2>nul
curl -o %REGION%/getservices.xml "http://beyonwizt4/web/getservices?sRef=1:7:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:FROM%%20BOUQUET%%20%%22userbouquet.LastScanned.tv%%22%%20ORDER%%20BY%%20bouquet"

I don't actually auto-generate missing 9Life picon data, but you're right that the most recent data I have for Gippsland is what Mike provided in July 2021.

I'll need to do a new picon distribution when NITV HD comes on line on 5 Dec. Mike, if you attach a copy of your scan data to a post here, I'll make sure that the Gippsland picons are updated when I do NITV HD.

Adoxa, I can't remember what region you're in, but if it's not Gippsland, please post a copy of your scan data, and I'll add that along with the NITV HD changes, too.

I'm just about ready to do a new picon setup that includes the new NITV HD. I haven't been able to find a colour NITV HD logo, but I have found a black & white one that I can mashup with the NITV logo to make a coloured NITV HD logo.

It looks as though I can fake up the picon serviceref data for most places by just assuming that where NITV's service id (SID) is in the form 3n4, that NITV HD's will be in the form 3n9. The only places that don't seem to fit that pattern seem to be Sydney and the NSW Central Coast, where NITV's SID is 305 (304 is SBS Food Network).

Could someone in Sydney and/or the Central Coast please post a copy of their scan data (see the first post in the topic for instructions)? That will let me make sure that I get the picon setup correct for those two regions.

Here's an updated Rockhampton, which, along with NITV HD, also has 9Go! as HD (and 9Gem, which happened a few months ago, I think).

Thanks, got it. And it helps confirm the 3n4 -> 3n9 pattern to convert NITV's SID to NITV HD's SID in most places.

I now don't actually need the scan data for Sydney or for the NSW Central Coast, I've been able to dig the information I need out of IceTV.

But if anyone posts that scan data, I'll use it.

I've committed the updates to add NITV HD to the picon setup. It will be available as an update package when peteru has built the packages.

The update also includes new scan data for Brisbane, Canberra & Rockhampton, and updated, but not including the NITV updates scan data for Sydney and the NSW Central Coast.

When the update package becomes available, all regions that have picon setup for NITV should now also have picon setup for NITV HD, whether I have new scan data for them or not.

I now don't actually need the scan data for Sydney or for the NSW Central Coast, I've been able to dig the information I need out of IceTV.

But if anyone posts that scan data, I'll use it.

Your method has worked, after a rescan the NITV HD logo does appear fine here in Sydney. But since you asked for it anyway, scan data attached. Thanks to all for keeping up the good work. :D

Thanks for that. It will go into the next picon update. If there are significant changes (i.e. the update changes the picon setup) that may come sooner rather than later.

Apologies for the slow reply, but I tested positive for COVID on 23 Dec and spent 2-10 Jan in hospital with COVID and pneumonia. I'm OK now (even had two consecutive days with negative COVID RATs), but I'm still very much not up to speed. It may take a week or two before I even look at your update.

I haven't had a great Christmas/New Year, but I had fantastic support from family and friends.

Sorry to hear that Peter, but glad to hear you are feeling better now.
Cheers
